Iain, there was a 10 year old girl with cp doing hbot when I was in the chamber last year. She wore a disc with a latex neckseal and a clear plastic cylindrical hood which formed airtight seal with the disk. The O2 was fed in through the disc and the exhaust hose also. IMHO ,Louise (10 yr old), enjoyed the hbot and became more alert during sessions. Have a look locally within the MS community. Those guys know the benefits of hbot and usually have chambers hidden away in garages and suchlike. You may be able to use one without having to buy. You could reciprocate by volunteering any help needed to the chamber operation.

not looking for comfort, bells and whistles, just drive o2 into him at 1.75ppo2 and enough space to manipulate his joints etc.

i would presume there will be old systems floating about somewhere due to specs changing over the years.

once im working in the new year, aquiring a chamber will be a priority, however i realy have nothing to go on cost wise. so have no idea how feasable it is to want to own one.

cheers

Iain

thanks again for the advice guys, im a little reluctant to take up the services of someone elses chamber as my little lad is very head strong, if he dont like it he will kick up holy hell, and i dont want to be waisting anyones time if its going to take a while to get him comfortable with being in a chamber, it wouldnt be fair to take a slot away from another child/person if the time ended up being waisted, also theres the ability to work on him more intensively.

as with any parent, theres nothing i wont do for my kids. so if a chamber can be aquired for around the £5000 mark im over the moon with that.

i have no debts, i live in a cheapo council house and my missis is very good at budgeting, so once the dive career gets going in the new year, i can probably raise that kind of money in 1-2 months if i get some steady work. obviously i would like a better standard of living for all the family, its why i trained as a diver, but it can wait a few months if it means a better quality of life for the little one.

buying the chamber is just my prefered way to do, but you never know whats arround the corner, so i am sincerely greatfull for the advice given on making use of other peoples, and any further info is most welcome.

cheers

Hi Ian,

I know of a large chamber in North Lincolnshire that is charity owned/run for the purpose you are after, If you want some contact details let me know and I will get them for you. Good luck with your search for a small chamber.

Richard

In your original message you mention that you want a 2nd person to be able to be in the chamber. The small chambers are small, Stew's "portable coffin" description isn't far from the truth, this is one a friend of mine had:

And an interior shot (complete with therapeutic beer):

If you can find someone who deals in odd ex-mil kit then you might be able to find one. There is a lot of ex-naval oddball underwater stuff knocking around Russia. The one in the pics IIRC was an ex-military Draeger unit but they really are very tight.

Cheers,

Stuart

try talking to your local Multiple Sclerosis society, we are actually storing a hyperbaric chamber, 1 person. for the society we share our centre with, they intend to use it and are planning the new building for it.

Hi Iain,
If your looking for treatment for your son, approach one of the Multiple Sclerosis Chanbers to see if you can use their facilities see
http://www.msrc.co.uk/index.cfm?fuseaction=show&pageid=258for a list of facilities that have HBO facilities. The nearest to you will be Manchester.
Alternatively call the Hyperbaric Treatment and training services in the Wirral hyperbaric medicine decompression illness recompression chambers and ask for Dave Allcock the Manager who has conducted trials on treating children with cerebal palsey and he will be able to offer advice.
These routes will be significantly cheaper to buying a chamber which at the moment are at a premium.
If you want further advice PM me, I'm down the road in Southport.
Regards Derek Moore
