Dmt & Faw

we are all required to have the FAW qualification but if you have a DMT ticket are you still required to get an annual FAW ticket?
im guessing we are as the government will benefit financially somewhere along the line.
looking for clarification...
cheers

Doing my DMT as I type. The official line is that nope, DMT does not cover your FAW.

Having said that, on the last job I did, they did take one guy with DMT and no FAW.

Apples and oranges........

RE: me last post - I've just finished a DMT course down in Plymouth, and got a free FAW certificate at the end of it........ Your question and my argument invalidated in one fell swoop

So yes, did the course at Interdive in Plymouth. It was pretty good - the course leader, one John Clifton (ex Naval medic) was fantastic, really knows his courgettes and is a nice guy too.

Only criticism I would have is the lack of structured practical experience. I'm now allowed to go and suture people up, stick IV lines into them, whack ET tubes down into their trachea etc - all without having actually tried it out on an actual person. It was all on plastic dummies etc.

We did get sent to a local hospital A&E dept to see what was going on, and one diver was offered a chance of stitching up a drunk. In the main though, Plymouth seems to be a fairly quiet place. I hear if you do the course at Glasgow Marylands (sadly, via Fort Bill so you pay a criminal price for it) there are far more incidents for you to get your hands dirty with.

Well worth a go though - and a few days after finishing, was offered a weeks work on the strength of being a DMT. Job fell through, but still.

First time I've heard it called that. Friday and Saturday night in Union St should have drummed up enough business. Even the local marines have to be careful

Worst thing I saw was a 5 yr old who'd had his big toenail ripped out when his 1yr old brother slammed a door on him

well done Al, congrats on passing.
thanks also for the info, the FAAW i assume will only last a year, where your DMT will be 3-4 years?
if you ever want to whack ET tubes down into anyones trachea, remind me not to volunteer.
i live not far from Glasgow (20 min drive & not that im home often) and i know that saturday nights are the most popular for the hospital canteen

Nope - both DMT and FAW are valid until this time in 2011.

Hi

I need to get DMT to get on a forthcoming remote expedition (and it will also be useful commercially) but what is covered in DMT that is not covered in EMT?

Regards

AnneMarie

You can do the R-EMT course without having done your DMT course.
