HSE Part IV

Hiya

I found out today that Plymouth have a Part IV course for £1500 (with FAAW as an add-on) that only takes 9 days (with credit given for existing dive quals). But the normal courses at Dunoon etc take 4 weeks (including FAAW).

So has anyone used the Plymouth school? What are they cutting out of the syllabus that is covered in the other schools to shorten the time so much?

Fort William teach you everything and tell you to forget what you know already. The HSE recognise that a CMAS 2 equiv can already dive and you don't need to be taught that, that's what the Plymouth guy does, continues from your existing knowledge.

p.s. it's not part IV anymore it's HSE scuba.

So what's the crack with TH's course, I want to know specifically what is not included in that course, compared to scottish schools.....

Forgetting about FAAW, 9 days is still a big reduction from 3 weeks.

Not knocking either, just interested.

The difference is in the fact that you don't have to spend time learning to dive as this is pre-quisite to tony's course. If you already know a lot about diving physiology etc then this all still applies. All you have to get used to is the different kit and procedures etc.

Not done Tony's course myself but hear good things about him personally.

HTH,

Dan

Hi, thanks for the advice.

But HSE Scuba at Dunoon etc doesn't teach you to dive, I think there is actually a little module before HSE Scuba that teaches actual mechanics of diving.

If there was a breakdown of what is done each day on both Plymouth and scottish school's courses that would be useful, sure someone has a link!!

It's a big difference in price and time that's why I'm interested, but don't want to do a cheaper course that may not be as good.

You dont have to be a diver prior to doing your HSE Scuba at Dunnon or Fort William.
