| Not me personally but a friend of mine is in South Africa now. He went because the courses are supposed to be a lot cheaper than the UK. However, he booked and paid for his course last year and when he arrived there this year the courses had gone up in price and he was given a nice big bill on day one. He also had to take nearly all his own kit with him. The courses can last up to 13 weeks as opposed to 9 in the UK and you have the extra cost of flights to add on. And yesterday I found out he'd been mugged and lost all his bank cards and phone and 2 other students on his course had the same treatment at gunpoint. Does that answer your question. Cheers

| when i first looked at SA for training, it was evident that although it was IMCA recognised, it wasnt an HSE ticket, no great shakes as i have worked with a few SA trained divers who get work no problem. what was evident was that all of them are only qualified to 30m (the ones i know, some might be different?) they then had to return to the uk to finish the final week of S.S. deep dives to 50m and wet-bell in order to bring them in to line with the scottish school training. might be worth asking the question first... get what you pay for i guess.
