| Too Old.... Hello, This is my first post in this forum and I am hoping to get some advice from some people within the industry.... I have been considering making a move into commercial diving and enrolling on the relevant courses at either PDA or Fort William... But, having done a certain amount of research I have read a couple of places that suggest that anyne over the age of 30 should not consider such a move. Being of that age myslef, I was wondering what anyone elses thoughts on this might be or whta the reasons for it are??? Thank you in advance.... Marlas |

| too old !!! piffle hey up marlas , i dont know who has told you that 30 years young is too old to be a commercial diver but thats SHITE . i myself have just completed the commercial course at pda in dunoon and at 41 years old have been working since finnishing . i had the same questions before i went for it , and i spent some time talking to all sorts of people in the industry to see if it was too late to make it work , the old hands on lots of other forums also gave me lots of advice and encouragement . the general consensous is that if you are willing to get stuck in and you have the right apptitude YOU WILL MAKE IT . so if its what you want then get stuck in !!! |

| Although not a commie diver myself I do know a couple and they do get work if they are willing to roll-up their sleeves (metaphorically of course). The one thing to remember is that in commie diving the diving bit is only the bus to work, you do have to take some skils with you like welding, NDT knowledge etc. Good luck with your efforts, Midnight

| My arse! Dude on our course was in his mid 40s, is now working his backside off up in Scotland. As long as you are fit and healthy and can hack the pace of working on what is really just an underwater building site, you'll be right. I've met some pants younger divers too - was offshore last yr and at least 2/3 of the guys on the team had to finish dives early because they 'had cramp' - which is really just code for 'I chain smoke, don't exercise, but still think I can spent 2 hours finning around'. Get it down 'ye, you'll love it! |
