Well, this past two weeks I've been in the shit... literally

Swapping out gates in a water treatment works; although it's not as bad as I expected - no turds floating around etc, and the 'water' doesn't even smell like crap.

Worst bit about it is using an AH3 freeflow helmet - I don't mind them too much (although it's a bloody faff balancing the valves) but a couple of guys have aborted dives early. One after he thought he was taking a CO2 hit and another after he couldn't sort the valves, blew up his suit and ended up floating.

Off to Welches dam in Cambridgeshire next week.

I don't think the forum is ready for tales of Mr Berk and his SAT sock just yet.

Cheers

Kogeko saw the sea in a book once
Wink Is there any work out there???

It certainly seems like everyone's keeping themselves fairly busy and have a stinking (Al) good time in the process.... Lol

I've just recently finished my ALST course and am about to start my Diver Medic and Offshore survival. Now i've emailed my CV to a few Diving Contractors (McDermott, Subsea 7, Helix, Technip and OT2K) who employ ALST's and as of yet haven't got diddly back.. Infact, not even a "we've got no projects on" or "we've got enough ALST's on our books"....
Now i'm not about to give up, so i'm thinking of perhaps going "old school" and mailing them a copy of my CV and Certs.... Does anyone happen to know of any contractors that are recruiting??? Or indeed know of a different approach???.... Such as the address of an Offshore manager, so i can kidnap his family until he gives me a job???? Lol .....

Regards...

Phil

Someone is asking the very same question on Longstreath on the General board. Register and have a look if you haven't done so already.

Cheers

You just can't beat working for the public services.

I went to do a job at the ESB power station at Poolbeg in Dublin.

The job had to be done on a saturday so we drove up on a Friday night and collected 6 hours of travelling time just to get there. Turned up on saturday morning to seal up an intake vent. The electric hoist we were to use was broken and there wasn't an electrician in the place who could fix it so we sat about all day doing nothing. Back in the car for another 6 hour drive and because it was a weekend we were on double bubble

Working with the local councils is good also if you like drinking tea all day.

Sadly this type of thing is not your normal day to day stuff.

Cheers

Offshore misconception No1 - We have carton milk, 'slim boy' and regular 'fat boy' flavours so I'm going to red-blob you for that Ian

I must say you're a lucky bunch of barstewards getting all that work in exotic locations... while out here we 'll have to settle for arriving in port in Thailand tomorrow if you get my drift!

Phil, try Hallin in Singapore.

See ya later,

Berok

got a load of one day jobs this week...
today we threw a diver in with a knife to remove a rope from a pilot boat prop.
started at 3pm, finished before 5pm, full wages. i got my hands wet tendering.

tomorrow we have to open a gate valve.. should take 10 minutes
the day after, we are looking for the end of a pipe in a loch so it can be measured for a flange.
this is an easy week
