Cool is there anybody out there

jees guys hasnt it gone quiet since berko went off !!!
just to try and get something started , some of you know that i have recently finished my commie course up there in dunoon .
i was very lucky and went straight into work with a local company in hull . i have now been with them for 5/6 weeks and loving every minute of it !!! my short list of work so far consists of working at a pumping station damming / blocking off inlets to the main pumps ( one by one ) so they could be inspected . had a very messy / funny job at a dairy factory 1stly repairing some pipework in a effulent tank , then once repaired had to carry out a cleaning job / survey of the airiation system , this was funny because where there was no air circulating the liquid had turned to a sludge and it felt like diving in jelly , oh what joy . we have done a couple of jobs on vessels in our local docks , one was blocking off a stern gland , one was blocking off an inlet , so repair work could be carried out on board . we have also been doing dock surveys in goole both on walls and on inner and outer lock gates .
this week week we are videoing a couple of resavoirs and some gas pipes in a river , this will make a change as all the work so far has been in zero vis .
the learning curve is great to be on , and im loving every minute of the work ...
so , im just wondering what everybody else is up to ? and where they are ? and what work they are doing ?
i know there are others out there ...

Wink My €2

I’m concreting, again! Been working in the peoples republic of Ireland exporting the €uro since the new year. Job is a 105 metre long mass poured concrete pier, 13 metres high by 7 metres thick. So far we have put in 20,000 cubic metres of concrete and once we start pumping we don’t stop until the pour is finished, which could be up to 24 hours later and we then dive around the clock.

The steel shuttering we use comes in 2 sections and together it weighs about 32 tonnes.

Most of the time we are diving in zero viz or at night, either installing the shuttering, burning or airlifting.

Lovely viz for burning.

The airlift is a 12” steel pipe about 40 feet long and its capable of sucking up anything you can get into it, arms and legs included.

Kit used is a Genesis 2 hard hat and a KMB 28 band mask for the standby. Nearest chamber is a 6 hour drive away so we have J cylinders as our O2 kit or we have a heli-pad 2 minutes away.

And that’s about it.

Cheers

Simon

Greetings Spongebobb,

I'm glad to hear you're a busy and the work certainly does sound varied and interesting. Have you found the work has been quite constant, or have you had much time layed off waiting for work to come up?

I'm just tidying up my affairs and am now in my last couple of months in the Military and am itching to start my course at Dunoon. I've just recently finished a diving related continuation course and start my Diver Medic next week, shortly followed by my Offshore survival at HOTA.
Question for ya spongeeeeeeeey! Did you feel that the skills and procedures you learnt at the PDA put in a good postion for employment or was there anything you wished you'd done before hand?

That aside, i've been spending some quality time freezing my arse off in some the nicer inland sports diving sites keeping myself indate, inpractice and indepth...

I'll be up in Hull from the 19th May onwards if your available to meet up for a beer Spongebobb (I'm buying.. Lol), to chew the fat over commie diving??

Regards

Phil

Simon.
Your chamber is a bit far away isn't it? any further and you can use ours LOL Whats up? your client feeling lucky or what? Still at least your in water.

Pic is of a UK paper mill, blocked venturi, Can't technically call it water mind look's like shit and smells like it too. Client doesnt know if we dive it, drain it or just give up and grow roses on it.

The client has imposed a 10 metre depth limit on all dives and we are using Norwegian tables which are far more conservative than the US Navy tables.

Ireland is not exactly blessed with chambers and the nearest one to the job site is owned by the navy and they have barred anyone else from using it after a scuba diver decided to sue them after being treated for a bend.

As for being in the water I've done over 100 hours so far this year.

Cheers

Come on Berko. You know you are only jealous, at least these lads get real milk in there tea and get to taste it. LOL. instead of that tinned Carnation Sh*t offshore. Nice to see you back though.

Now after your 16 day stint how about telling the forum what it really is like in sat for 16 days? You know the parts that they don’t/wont teach you at the dive schools, or as I seem to have enough red blobs against me already do you want me to do it instead? Lol Iain
