| I’m concreting, again! Been working in the peoples republic of Ireland exporting the €uro since the new year. Job is a 105 metre long mass poured concrete pier, 13 metres high by 7 metres thick. So far we have put in 20,000 cubic metres of concrete and once we start pumping we don’t stop until the pour is finished, which could be up to 24 hours later and we then dive around the clock. ![]() The steel shuttering we use comes in 2 sections and together it weighs about 32 tonnes. ![]() Most of the time we are diving in zero viz or at night, either installing the shuttering, burning or airlifting. Lovely viz for burning. ![]() The airlift is a 12” steel pipe about 40 feet long and its capable of sucking up anything you can get into it, arms and legs included. ![]() Kit used is a Genesis 2 hard hat and a KMB 28 band mask for the standby. Nearest chamber is a 6 hour drive away so we have J cylinders as our O2 kit or we have a heli-pad 2 minutes away. And that’s about it. Cheers Simon

I'm glad to hear you're a busy and the work certainly does sound varied and interesting. Have you found the work has been quite constant, or have you had much time layed off waiting for work to come up? I'm just tidying up my affairs and am now in my last couple of months in the Military and am itching to start my course at Dunoon. I've just recently finished a diving related continuation course and start my Diver Medic next week, shortly followed by my Offshore survival at HOTA. Question for ya spongeeeeeeeey! Did you feel that the skills and procedures you learnt at the PDA put in a good postion for employment or was there anything you wished you'd done before hand? That aside, i've been spending some quality time freezing my arse off in some the nicer inland sports diving sites keeping myself indate, inpractice and indepth... I'll be up in Hull from the 19th May onwards if your available to meet up for a beer Spongebobb (I'm buying.. Lol), to chew the fat over commie diving?? Regards Phil |

Pic is of a UK paper mill, blocked venturi, Can't technically call it water mind look's like shit and smells like it too. Client doesnt know if we dive it, drain it or just give up and grow roses on it. |

Ireland is not exactly blessed with chambers and the nearest one to the job site is owned by the navy and they have barred anyone else from using it after a scuba diver decided to sue them after being treated for a bend. As for being in the water I've done over 100 hours so far this year. Cheers

Now after your 16 day stint how about telling the forum what it really is like in sat for 16 days? You know the parts that they don’t/wont teach you at the dive schools, or as I seem to have enough red blobs against me already do you want me to do it instead? Lol Iain |
