    Offshore age???

    hi

i would like to hear the opinion of the offshore divers on YD - about the minimum age to work offshore.

im 19 and currently training at the PDA.
i am in no rush to get into offshore diving however i have been told that you must be at least 25 to work offshore??

is this another bulls**t story ive been told - or is there some truth in the statement?

    thankyou in advance

Not bullshit... total horseshit Though what will probably hold you back from offshore work (for the moment at least) will be the fact that at ner-ner-ner-nineteen you won't have a great deal of work experience on your CV. However, after a couple of years at the 'civils' mullarky your CV will look a little more attractive to those that hire-n-fire.

Good luck on course Dan and stay safe,

    thanks alot berko.

i am deffinitely looking forward to getting stuck into some civils work.
but obviously i cant see myself doing that my whole carrer so offshore will be the next step.
however im not a dreamer like the majority of people on my course - some are under the impression that they they will be at fort bill doing there sat this year!

i just going to work hard no matter what or where the job is - and hopefully i'll meet some good people that can help me progress into offshore work - eventually.
    thanks again
    take care

Within the EU it would also be illegal to discriminate on age. Also if you require an amount of experience, if should be valid for the job. No saying 5 years when 2 would have given enough. Scary for people who have been promoted pretty much on the basis of longevity.

    offshore age

djayk, I wouldn't worry about age, just get on with it & learn as you earn. Especially rigging, a bit of burning & welding. Be attentive and polite to the oldies, even when they're being unbearable-mostly testing to see if you crack & never be seen to be idle on a job site...
