    Alright Chucker.

    I did my CDs course in 2000, Listen to all the advice given on here especially from Berko. ie keep your mouth shut,only speak when spoken to and try to play the "grey man". As for the fitness side a PASS in the diver fitness test is easily achievable but you need to surpass this to keep the instructors eyes from been on you. The course its self is brilliant fun, mud runs, getting wet, beastings, getting more wet and all the rest of the good stuff. As for the dive sets they are all pretty good, even CDBA (15 years old now) still works well and does what it was designed for. I had a brilliant 9 years travelling the world as a diver and i am sure you will do the same....

    Good luck

    The Marines have a pre-joining fitness test - its basically the old Battle Fitness Test but done on a treadmill. It is;

    2 x 2.4 km (1.5 mile) runs at a 2 degree incline. There is a 1 minute rest between the 2 runs.

    The first 2.4 km run is to be completed in not more than 12:30.

    The second 2.4 km is a 'best effort' and should be within 10:30.

    I just gave it a try this evening...

    ... 11:50 and 10:00 dead and I'm a useless old git close to 55 so you should piss it Chucker!

    Sounds very similar to the standard fitness test everyone has to complete in the Navy once a year or something, anyone know the lowdown on this? I seem to remember 1.5 miles in 11 minutes as a guide, not sure about doing it twice

    Digs.

    IIRC the times were age dependent. Somehow finding myself drafted to a combined Navy/Army Squadron we use to do the standard BFT with the REMES and Booties, which was a 1.5 mile squad run then rest for minute or so followed by 1.5 mile individual run think it was under 11 mins wearing boots. Was actually quite happy when I came in under time, the time i came in just over time and still beating 3 booties was good too, some big gorrilla of a pti started shouting then asked for names and ranks when I told him he just said "f***ing matelots" then really hit the roof at the marines.

    Of course it sounds similar, its the Battle Fitness Test. The lowdown is as posted. A single 1.5 miles is fcuk-all to achieve by young, fit servicemen so the 1st one is there to 'gut' you and the 2nd to see what you got.

    The BFT is as gwilson states, though done on a treadmill you need to add 2 degrees of incline as a treadmill is less effort than road running. Don't know if they still do it but the territorial SAS at Chelsea Barracks used to run 'tests' on the 1st Saturday of each month. Be at the Kings Road for 08:00 and get a briefing and a run on their athletic track. Its a short track so 1.5 miles is 11 laps. The 1st 1.5 is run with pacers (of the sand beret variety ) and ran in the two outside lanes - so more than 1.5 . If you aint with 'em at the finish you're out - bye. If you are you can cut to the inside lane (no rest) and run the 2nd 1.5 in less than... er, 11:00 I think. To be honest, the first time I tried it I was only 4 days out of saturation and my legs crapped-out after 9 laps! The following month it was a piece of p!ss.

    Sounds like fun!

    The army BFT used to be a mile and half in ten and a half minutes, which was rather easy.

    In 1998 the CD fitness test was on the road around Horsea Island and was 1.5 miles as a team in about 13mins and then 1 minute rest followed by 1.5 miles individual effort which had to be under 10 mins. There was then a 400meter load carry, with a bergen full of sand (not sure of weight), which ended outside the gym and straight into the gym for sit ups, 16 dips and 8 chin ups.
