    Offshore survival courses

    Hi guys,
I hope all of you are now working and the bad times are leaving us!
As some of you know, i am going to Fort Bill in a few weeks to do my course(stupid of me i know!) and i am thinking of doing my sea survival course before i go. What i want to know is which one would you recommend because there seem to be quite a few and i dont want to do the wrong one. If any of you have a spare 5 mins could you look on www.hota.org and let me know what you think.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Cheers
    Dan

If you just want the basic offshore survival, ie. UK continental shelf, the BOSIET is fine. If you want to work elsewhere in the North sea,(eg. Norway, Denmark) a Pan-European Survival is a must. The BOSIET is also valid in some other parts of the world.

If you have money to spare do the Pan European one, if not get the BOSIET. And remember, you might not ever get to use it before the first refresher!

Basically, one of the top two:

    HOTA - Training Courses
    Half man, Half bunk.

I'd wait until you actually finish your course, you'll be wasting the length of your diving course from the survival course which has an expiry date on it.

Wise words... and if you get offered a civils job after course there'll be yet more wasted. You may have years of civils work before making it offshore.

Cheers Sandman and Berko. I know that i wont get offshore straight away but i just thought it might look better on my CV when i apply to civil companies.
Diverstu, the price list is so well hidden that there bloody isn't one! I rang this morning and the basic BOSIET was £635 inc VAT.

Sounds cheaper than the ones up in Aberdeen, anyway, and I take it you're not far from the place, so no digs, eh?

It's always a difficult one- do you get the bosiet and never use it, or not have it when that one in a million call comes in. All I'll say is don't put yourself so far in debt that you can't sleep at night! (or get shitloads of loans, do ALL the courses, have a holiday, and declare yourself bankrupt. By the time you're in Sat you'll be clear again!)
