i think one with a compass-card (like the SK7) would be better than a needle-style. i think that the one you're looking at would have to be held completely flat to work, which isn't always easy underwater.

I'd not bother with either - use a hiking compass Suunto or Silva.
The wrist is not the best place for a compass, so you usually forget to put it on, then it's not there when you need it.

The hiking compasses can go in a pocket and cost 1/3 of the price.

I have the SK6, which is better than the SK5 (card style rather than needle). Not much more expensive. It works, but if I was buying again I'd spend an extra £5 or so and get the SK7, which is again better (tolerates much more deviation from the horizontal plane) and allegedly one of the best compasses out there.

Make sure it is set for your region, i,e northern hemisphere rather than the tropics or southern hemisphere.

Whats a compass?

Just dive wrecks and save yourself the bother of getting a compass and learning to use one.

this is of course a matter of what works for you - i've tried compasses on consoles and in pockets, but on my wrist definitely works best for me

Quite right, and ditto.

I'm pleased with my SK7.

Dave.

wrist sounds good as only seem to have had problems with console mounted ones. like the time we were in anglesy and using the compass on my console to find that wall that just never appeared.
