| You can get adaptors to connect a 9-pin (last time I saw it) serial port to a USB in most computer shops. But I have my doubts that the software will be able to locate it if it's not plugged into the serial port. Why do you need it to be USB?

| I'm presuming here that you are asking for a laptop. Most laptops these days don't come with serial ports. You should be able to get a serial to usb converter from most places like pc world/staples/computer fair and they should do the trick. I had to have a serial port on mine for work. When I mentioned this, the quotes for new laptops jumped from being in the 400 quid range to the 1400 quid range! |

| I have done it. Firstly the Uwatec website has an update to DataTrak software that recognises USB connections. I bought a serial/USB converter online for about 9 months ago for about £15 (came with CD-Rom). It works. I am not a computer whizz. http://www.uwatec.com/english/framem11.htm http://www.cableuniverse.co.uk/catal...roducts_id=228 they are quoting 30 quid, might be cheaper if you look around. I can't remember if this was where I got mine for definite but it looks right. good luck Neill

| easy i got a serial to usb adapter from rs components to run mine on a laptop ,works no problem and mines a home built interface |

| Hi Chris, I make PC interfaces for most types of Suunto dive computers, and have had no problems using various different types of USB adapters. The ones I am currently using I get from the 'states via eBay like this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...58034 03&rd=1 The postage is a bit steep, but it'll only cost you a tenner all in When you plug the adapter in it will ask you for a driver disk, just stick the supplied CD in the drive and let the PC find the right driver (I'm assuming you're running Windows XP here). At the end of the driver install a dialogue box will appear telling you that it has been assigned a certain COM port number - make a note of this and make sure you set up the Suunto Dive Manager software with the same COM port number, the software usually takes a while to find the interface. You should have no trouble using it after this. Send me a PM if you're stuck. Hope this helps Muzzer EDIT I'm also assuming you've got a Suunto! Quote:

| Ha - must be going blind in my old age Quite right, the post DOES say data trak, though the advice still holds true for any interface that uses a serial port (as long as you can configure the software to the port number assigned to the USB adapter) I'll read more carefully next time.
