As Dave asked "do you have the magic number"? I think you have to get this far.

Don't use a PC built in IR port as the VR3 reallys does not like the IR coms stack. They sell a thing that plugs into a serial port. You haven't got a serial port? That's a pity. It seems to work with USB to serial adapters but they're not cheap.

Finally don't even think of using even the 'proper' connector near flourescent lights. That has never worked for me.

I still pump the dives onto the PC in case I want their graphs but I gave up on using it as a log and spent money on something that does the job properly.

A couple of things spring to mind here:

1, You must use the IR interface from DeltaP as the inbuilt ones you get on many PCs/Laptops use a different protocol. In addition, you must contact the company who sold you the interface with the serial number of your VR3 so they can give you the download PIN.

2, Put your VR3 into Dive Now mode (from the front screen) before you start the download or, when you put it into download mode, the unit will switch off. Not handy as the download mode's screen is blank!

Guys guys guys, Yes I've got the number all programmed in, have used the PC link before etc.

Just last night, once l pressed the right button from the FULL screen, where it normally goes blank and the S/W Listens, connects and enables you to DL. The VR3 was resetting and switching on instead of switching off.

It sorted itself out though, so Im just putting it down to a glitch.

Thanks again for your help

There is a load of information on the forums and in the FAQs on the DeltaP website
http://www.vr3.co.uk

There is some basic download information here
http://www.mssystems.co.uk/prodive/support

Tips
Enable the comms in Prodive before putting the VR3 in comms mode. Prodive will detect the VR3 as soon as it comes in range of the IR adapter.

Enable <dive now> on the VR3 to stop it switching off before the download is started.

Common Problems
1. No Comms PIN
You get a connection to the VR3
You click download and the link immediately hangs up

2. Flat line profile
After downloading a dive the profile graph displays a flat line
You need to add your VRs firmware version to the VRFirm.dat file.
The VR Firmware version is displayed on the last line of the VR3s start up display. Open VRFirm.dat in notepad and add your firmware version (case sensitive) on the last line followed by ,2
e.g.
V2.1Cxr,2
If you still get a flat line, change the 2 to a 1.

3. Short flat line profile
After download the profile graph displays a single sample point
Set PC Link = 0 on your VR3
