Reading other threads on VR3 issues I would be interested to hear what conservatism people add to the VR3 (assuming OC nitrox dives) if any.

Thanks,

Kristen

None..

The computer tells me the minimum time required to get the hell out of the water in an emergency and I add my own conservatism.

You can add as much time as you like to deco, slow the ascent, add stops its doesn’t matter the VR3 will just credit you or debit you depending on how you adjust the profile.

If I do a dive to 40m and it tells me first stop 18m and I think no thanks I would rather stop at 30m and do a 3m/min ascent from there the VR3 just says OK and clears the 18m stop before I even get there. If I continue to add stops to the profile and slow ascents my 30min at 6m is reduced so by the time I get to 6m it may tell me I only have 20mins to do.

As a result I run some very VPM looking curves with a Buhlmann computer.

BUT if my CCR fails and I am bailing out on minimum gas I will do exactly what the VR3 tells me to do at the maximum ascent rate it will tolerate.

Thanks Mark. I would 'green you' but I'm told I have to spread the credit around a little first....

Phone Andy at Dales Divers. He is rarely beaten on such matters.

Yours will be a C1 and you need to move it to a C3. It costs about £50 for each upgrade, so should be approx £100.

Any views on which are the best batteries to use with a VR3 - I replaced the battery recently and one dive later it is saying low battery !! They were normal AA Panasonic batteries though.... never again.

(I should have added that I would like to buy them in person tomorrow rather than mail order as I need them for diving on Friday (weather permitting) so any suggestions as to where would be helpful - Maplins ?)

Thanks,

Kristen
