Now I have my lovely shiny new twins set (sponsored by ebay) I have been contemplating learning a bit more about deco diving so I can use more of my air 'while i'm down there' so I thought I might actually like it so much that deeper diving and longer diving may feature in my future. SO I looked here about getting a basic VR3, hell theres so much for and against I just dont know what to do. In summary is it worth getting the VR2 and risk having to sell it on later or shall I just bite the bullet and get the '3' and not use most of its capabilities perhaps!
cheers,
Scoobs
Depends where you are going in the future. If the extent of your ambition is 60M on normoxic trimix the vr2 will do the job fine.

If you aim beyond get a vr£ now

Thats my problem you see I dont know where I will end up, when I first started to dive my main ambition was to not be so terrified at 18 metres that I wouldnt ever want to do it again!! Now I'm up to 160 dives and quite confident at 30-40 metres in viz of practically nothing, so who knows (big sigh)
Ah sod it its only money and they are very 'shiny' so best just do it I suppose

In the circumstances (sounds very like me) I would go VR£ (and did), best bit of dive kit I ever bought...

I'm hoping I made the right choice, as I bought one over the weekend

just printed the manual off the website, 60 odd pages, bit of light reading for later

any things I should watch out for, apart from not just straping it on and jumping in

Gary,

The VR3 is one of those things which is made a lot easier by having someone run through it with you. Reading the manual you will see a load of stuff you don't need to know, settings you'll never use, and probably miss the important stuff.

Personally, I just set the right gas and took it diving, along with my existing computer. That's the way I learn to use most computers, I call it the male method.

They're not nearly as complicated as they probably seem here, slightly more so on open circuit, but the gas switches are basically the most difficult thing, and the only time when you need to press buttons pretty much.

I don't mind going through it at the Falmouth weekend if it helps. I have the same model.

Digs.

agree entirely, the ONLY way to figure out what is going on is to watch someone show you.
