I personally, read the manual and figured it out from there. There is too much really to cover in one go, and there is always the danger that someone explains something incorrectly. The manual is quite clear, and has plenty of clarifications.

I did show gary a couple of bits and bobs, but not too much detail. How to set the PIN, change contact details, how to switch between OC and CC and a recommendation to set the safety to 10.

I read the manual and then just played with it in front of telly, running simulations, comparing diveplans with different mixes etc and generally pissing SWMBO off...........

Eventually it became almost second nature.

Eh?

Mine's only a C1 (OC Nitrox), but it didn't take me too long to figure it out. Most of the time I did spend was trying to understand the "manual". Once I'd thrown that away, and started playing it all came together.

what options to get?

I've just ordered a VR3 C2 with colour screen from my LDS. What other options do i need to get in order to get the dive profiles off the unit?

I think C5 is the software package. Does that include either the IR adapter or a cable of some kind? Or do I also need C6 (infrared adapter), C35 (usb to IR) or C33 (download cable 7pin to I/O - what's this???)

I did a search on YD for "c5", but nothing came up...

EDIT - just found out that the LDS shows C5 as a download kit (including cable + ir port). The PDF document on DeltaP's site only shows C5 as the software and C6 as the IR port, so I would assume that the PDF doc is out of date.

The handiest think about the VR3 is that it shows you what the options are for each button. The handiest thing I learned from the manual was <> is a short push and <> (Thisbut should be bold but it's not showing up!!) is a long push!

that's fine for pushing both buttons at the same time - but when you are just pressing the side buttons on their own, it's trial and error until you remember whether you need a LOOONNNGGGGG press or a short press

otherwise a reasonable piece of kit

Never had that problem. Short press to change the option, long press to select it. Example in dive mode it can have the piccy of a tank, if I want to change gases I long press that. It can also say Dvo, never worked out what that meant, other than options, if it's showing that I short press then long press to change gas.

To anyone who doesn't own a VR3, they're not complicated, they just sound it. Like trying to explain how to post on a forum would take you ages if you did it step by step, but you could show a person in minutes and they'd probably work it out for themselves in about the same amount of time!

Digs.

DVo - Dive Options.

I did the same, took it diving along with my other computer so I could see what it was telling me during the dive and figure it out from there.

can anyone tell me, if, diving with 2 VR3's (one a 3.03 and one a 2.1) will give similar deco requirements or are the models significantly different

had my first "play" with it (3.03) last weekend and can confirm once you get used to changing functions and gases, its actually quite easy to use, still got a back-up timer and tables though "just in case"

also, do retailers sell the battery keys or is it DeltaP only

thanks in advance

I think retailers sell them, although I popped in to Bristol Channel to get a new battry, and Neil took the cap off with a pin wrench (something like this).
