| Imported post During my deco procedures course at the weekend, my untrusty cochran decided to spit its dummy and switch itself off for no apparrent reason . . . never particularly liked the thing anyway. So, I'm in the market for a new computer. Although only diving on two nitrox mixes at the moment, I am planning to do normoxic trimix sometime next year before moving onto the box. Obviously the VR3 seems to do everything and will satisfy short and long term needs. BUT, they are bloody expensive and I suspect may be far more than I will ever need. I really don't have any plans to go deeper than 60, and thats long into the future. The question is, is there a cheaper alternative ? I had a quick look at the VR2, and although it will hanle both CCR and 4 gasses, it does not appear to handle He. The only other that I am aware of is the Dive Rite Nitek He, but that seems nearly as much as a VR3! Can anyone suggest / recommend an alternative or share thoughts on the VR2 / 3 ? Thanks, John

| Imported post I seem to be in the same position as you with regards to my diving and I have recently bought a VR3. Yes, it was an expensive purchase but it is very easy to use and I justified the cost by convincing myself that the unit can be upgraded as my diving advances (I don't know how valid that will be in real life though! Just as a very odd aside, I've felt much less tired after diving with the VR3 and following its microbubble stops. Its probably all in the mind but I would say that justifies the cost alone.

| Imported post <font color='#0000FF'>john, just to clarify we have three demo units that we send out free of charge for a trial period, usually about a month. you have to pay the return postage when your done about £6 if you then order a unit you get a brand new vr3,not the demo model if it's not for you 'no problem' its only cost you the postage to find out. most people who try them do order units though not all and thats the purpose of the exercise with no obligation or costs other than postage. cheers barrie
