Question Uwatec Serial Infra Red adapter
I recently bought on a whim a new Aladin Smart Pro dive computer. What I didn't know is that it doesn't use the old memo mouse to download files but uses Infrared. I have tried to get it to communicate with my laptop which is a few years old (thanks Nick Bown for help on this).

Uwatec do a branded serial port adapter for about £60 which seems rather expensive to me. So my question is does anyone else use either a USB or Serial adapter for the Aladin and will any old make work. They recommend a couple on the manual but I can't seem to find those. My local PC place does one for about £17 but will not take it back if it will not work, their words "we don't sell on trial".

Hi Fiona,

The Smart Pro uses the standard IrDA protocol, so any adaptor should work.

I use this one (the cheapest I could find at the time):

Ebuyer USB 1.1 Infrared Adapter

If you have any problems getting it set up, PM me and I'll see if I can help - it took me a while to get it all working the first time!

Cheers Rick I just didn't know if any old one would do, can't imagine how Uwatec can charge £60 for theirs.
