Suunto download question

Hi all,

Does Suunto do a USB cable for the download function.

Reason for asking is my shiny new laptop doesn't have a serial port !!!!!!!!

Had a wander round various places and can't see one.

I believe you can get a USB to serial adapter - check out maplins or do a search on here for 'usb serial' and see what others have done.

You may want to do a search on YD regarding this. You can get an adapter however it may not work (it didn't with mine). If it doesn't there is a procedure to sort out the configuration.

Try this: http://www.yorkshire-divers.co.uk/fo...unto+interface
I heard that with the D9 there was going to be a USB cable but don't know it will work with other suunto computers. I also heard thewre was going to be a 2.0 Dowload manager instead of 1.6. I belive it when I see it.

Thanks, interestingly the 2.0 is for the D9 only, I checked the cobra and it's 1.6. I wonder what the difference is?

Ouch... I really could do not hearing that I'll create a new post soon but downloaded the 2.0 software and it's totally different, however although it says it works with most models I'm not able to transfer the .sdl file. I've asked Suunto and awaiting a reply. In the meanwhile the 1.6 version is the latest for non D9 users.

Is there a PC-interface with USB connection available?
Question
My computer doesn't have a serial port. Is there a PC-Interface available with an USB connection or do you have a cable that can connect the interface with a USB-port??
Answer
We are aware of the fact that new laptops and PCs do not have serial ports and a USB connected interface will probably be available in the future. Most of the products that are now available on the market have unfortunately been developed during a time when the serial port was still a standard. The development period for this kind of product is usually quite long, which is the main reason why the interface cable is available for serial ports only. It is possible, however, to connect the interface cable to the USB port using a serial to USB adapter. These adapters can usually be found in any computer accessory shop and Suunto also makes its own serial to USB adapter, which you can buy from your Suunto representative.
