Suunto Questions

Hi Folks,

thinking of treating myself to either a D3 or a Mosquito, but I've got a couple of questions:

1. 100m depth limit... what sort of limit is it? Does it wrap round to zero and start ticking depth of from there? Or does it lock out? Or is this a physical limit... does it go pop at 100m?

2. The gauge mode... the Mosquito manual says it is limited to 6min as it is intended for freediving and the dive mode locks up if you bend it. Does this mean it's no good for diving on paper tables as just a simple bottom timer?

They look quite nice gizmoes but no.2 especially is putting me off.

Any views?

Cheers,

Stuart

I didn't know the Mosquito had a gauge mode.

The D3 is rated to 80m (for depth reading accuracy). I believe the display maxes out at 99.9m. I don't really care what pressure makes it go pop.

The package they come in appears identical apart from colour.

Why would you spend more on the Mosquito when it doesn't do anything useful for a serious diver? England must be making you soft.

Q. Why did the razorbill raise her bill?

A. So the sea urchin could see her chin!

With the mozzy you can download the info onto the computer.

Same as a D3. Mine came with the s/w and a download cable which Suunto usually sell separately for an absurd amount of money. Saved me braking out the soldering iron.

If you want a decompression computer/watch buy a Mosquito, if you want a depth timer/watch with an excellent gauge mode buy a D3. SCUBA wise, the only thing common between them is the package they come in and a reasonable price tag.

I use a Sensus Pro data logger so downloading isn't really a concern. I think it is a better system.

All I'm after is a good, deep rated timer. For an extra 50 squids having an EAN deco meter too doesn't seem too dear, but if they are only good to 80m then its Plan B.
