| i recommend a vytec or the Vyper The Quantum has a lot of disgruntled owner for me you want a computer you can trust, http://www.yorkshire-divers.co.uk/fo...ad.php?t=19045 http://www.yorkshire-divers.co.uk/fo...ad.php?t=18991

| I was looking at the Apeks and was also concerned about the quality problems, so I e-mailed Apeks and asked them. They have replied back that there was indeed an issue with the early batches but that Seiko (who make the computers for them) have now resolved these issues. However if one does occur they have assured me that a swap out would be forthcoming and I believe that level of customer service has been borne out by those who did have issues with their units. On that basis (and the huge cost difference between the Quantum and a Vytec, or functionality difference between Quantum and Vyper, the Quantum has my vote and I will be putting my money where my mouth is! | Thanks for the responses everyone! Definitely learning towards the Quantum - cheaper the the Vytec, and does more than the Vyper. Might not do stuff that I need at the moment, but hey - I'm all for getting value for money. Will let you know what I decide on. Cheers guys, Tom |

| If you're after saving a little bit of cash and aren't in a hurry to get one, check out the OTHER dive shop in Derby: http://www.uk-eshop.co.uk/divecellar/default.asp Their Today Only page has Suunto's at a decent price from time to time. Geko about a ton, Vyper about a ton fifty. They also don't inflate postage to make it look cheaper than it is. I get almost all my stuff from Dive Cellar (or Derby Diving Services as it used to be called). So keep looking at Today Only, or give Phil a call and see what deal he'll give you. As for your original question, I can't offer advice on your choice. I recently switched from a Mares Surveyor to Vyper and I'm never going to look back. I got convinced the Mares was trying to kill me whenever I dived with someone with a Suunto or Aladin. |

| Got one - had for almost a year now and no complaints.

| Apeks Qauntums had very good reports in the diving media... Perhaps the person who made that report, had been given a good one... As far as me and our lass are concerned, they are shite....we are not the only ones. My money is on the Mares M1 RGBM...it´s big and ugley...but the fucker works...Its also quite cheap... Make up your own mind..... |

| Thanks everyone for the replies. Decided to go for the Suunto in the end, seems like the safest choice. If all else fails, it looks nicer than the Apeks! I'm not going to need the gas switching for a good few years (I wouldn't have thought), perfectly happy pootling along in Stoney at the moment! Oh, that and the PC interface for the Suunto is cheap (as in £10 of components from Maplin) and the software looks better. Cheers, Tom |

If you ask Paul sometime he did have some connectors that clip in and hold the computer properly, done on a rapid prototyping (3d plastic printer) thing. I've got one, if you want a look give me a shout (note that some circuits that are available work better than others!) David |

| This is turning into a proper WUSAC social here! Spoke to Paul the otherday, he said he'd sort me out with the schematics and such so it could be done on Veriboard. Will ask him about the connector too. Cheers everyone. :-) Now to spend some money (yay!) Tom |
