Vytec -vs- D9

I have to use glasses to read (in air), the digits on the vytec appear to be bigger than the D9 in the shop. Is the D9 readable under water I wonder. Don't want to buy then find I can't read it:-(

Could try & buy, but the trial would have to be in a swimming pool at 2 mtrs - not enough of a test me thinks??

any advice

Tia - Andy

Andy if you are thinking of spending that amount of money why not go for a VR3. That way you are pretty much future proofed. Mind you its not much good as a wrist watch

Well obviously the digits on the D9 are readable otherwise it could never be sold. How easily readable they are is completely down to your own eyes - they are smaller, but whether they are small enough for you to struggle no one else can say but you. If you think you might have a problem then go for a Vyper/Vytec style rather than the smaller wrist-watch style computers, there's little reason to get a small computer anyway.

Well. I guess the answer is it depends on the type of diving you want to do. If you are going to eventually end up doing deco diving on mixed gas or a rebreather than the vr3 can be upgraded as you go.

The vr3 allows you to programme up to 10 gases and to gas switch underwater for accelarated deco on richer mixes etc.

I'm a suunto owner who thought I would never need these features but who is now saving his pennies to buy a vr3!!

Think my answer is in another thread on this forum -- I don't want to do tmx or deco diving - will probably stop at 30mtrs, so looks like a vytec then.

D9

The staff instructor at my LDS has a D9, the reading are a lot smaller than the vytec and if you lose your mask you probably wont be able to read the D9 but may stand a chance with the Vytec. The VR3 is the way to go since you want a mixed gas computer if you never see yourself doing trimix you could opt for the VR2 but the VR3 has games you can play on decompression stops although it doesnt come with transmitter they can be fitted to RB. Plus the only real difference between the D9 and Vytec is that the D9 has a compass and puts deep stops in plus its a lot smaller , if money isnt an object get a VR3

If you dont want to do deco diving why opt for a 3 mix computer? Why not get a stinger titanium looks nicer on the wrist?
