also if you are meaning friday the 5th if your near Hastings you could borrow mine to try. pm if you want
Or you could go the whole way and just get a VR3

Apeks Quantum would be my suggestion.

Dont get to worried about guage / bottom timer mode unless you are going to run tables and then if you are a bottom timer is dirt cheap. Although you can still use your Gecko to act as depth guage / timer you would just bend it

Also if it is dark enough to need a back light you will have a torch....Gecko is a GREAT value computer, deco is too conservative for me though.

I have a vytec and think it was a waste of money it acts as a loaner now - if you are going to be gas switching you will be using tables rather than Suuntos Deco algo.

If you want to be really flash get a HS Explorer.

    Hi Kate

It's going to be more what it looks like if I know you!

But from a dive point of view, I got a Vyper last year for my wife as she done her, long overdue, Nitrox qual. The reason I got a Vyper was it had a bigger, clearer screen compared with a Gekko, as well as the backlight, which I do use on night dives, I find it easier on the eyes. Very few people use gas switching computers for recreational diving, they tend to be for tech divers who are, as the name suggests, gas switching, typicaly in the 40-50m range, after that your looking at VR3s and trimix, which a nitrox gas switcher won't do.

I paid around £200 for my wifes, and before that she had a Mares Surveyor, like the M1 than John mentioned, and very nice they are to if you want to save £60.

    Have fun, and go shopping.

Whatever you buy don't buy the Quantum. It will go wrong. There's plenty on YD about this junk item.

I would go for the Vyper or the Mares M1. Secondhand Suunto sell well so don't be too scared of getting something you don't like and not being able to sell it.

depends where you're going in the longer term.

pointless to buy now and upgrade again later.

I just upgraded to a VR3. The dogs danglies
It took me 15 long years just to find out that just because I was angry didnt mean I was right!

    Kate,

I'd go for the Vyper too... big display, easy to use...don't use the backlight, shine a torch on the display if needs be, depends on how far you want to take things - I leave mine set on Nitrox, just put in the correct O2% before each dive - 21% for air etc. Simple.

Kate I would also suggest the vyper. A good, solid, all round computer that does everything you need it to for the type of diving that you do.

My view exactly, and if you do ever sell it you will get a good price for it as i have seen them going on eBay secondhand for more than i paid new!!

I would love to be able to afford a VR3, but I think I am going to go for the Vyper, it seems to be able to do what I need at this stage and I can't see myself progressing that much more for a little while yet. I've been spending enough money as it is lately!!!

Does anyone know the cheapest price I could get it for? I can get one for about £180 from Kent. If anyone knows anywhere where I could pick one up cheaper that this (other that e-bay because I don't know how to use that) please let me know or PM me.

Thank you everyone for your input!!!!

    xx
