My Analox had been going strong for over two years and I use it several times every week for courses.

I would recommend that you have access to one at the dive site so that you can check the mix before putting a reg on it. That doesn't mean that everyone has to have their own and if you dive with a group or club you can share one.

We stock them so take a look at the link below.

As Garfy boy and I dive pretty much together 99% percent of the time, we bought an Analox O2EII between us.

shared analyser with x, so now i'll need to get my own when i get my tank o2 cleaned ...... wouldn't rely on others having them or shop fills testers alone.

Agreed.

Isn't this what they teach on Nitrox courses?
Have your own and protect it, calibrate it, check it and use it.

I routinely blow 100% through other people's to check the cells aren't on their way out. If it then reads high on air after adjusting the knob on 100% the cell is current limiting.

Tell him it was a waste of time analyzing his mix because as far as I recall they don't detect urine strength!

i have a O2EII, good bit of kit.
i use it on all my gas mixs wether it be trimix or deco gases and it always seems to be accurate.

bit of a tip for you get the sensor saver kit with it, i have had mine running on the same cell for about 3 years now and regulary run 100% and 50% through it. and at the moment it is still going strong, will change the sensor for next year though just out of precaution, but it still is reading as expected.

Best to get your own

I recently watched a shop analyse an 80% mix and come up with 56% - they apologised and offered to let me take it away as was for free or they would re-mix. I decided to take away for free and just re-plan the dive (free nitrox tastes sweeter BTW ) - when I got home I analysed again and came up with 86%, tried again with a borrowed analyser and got 86% again. Using the 86% as 56% could have given me an o2 hit so I'm glad I could re-analyse!

I guess the mistake was because he topped off the cylinder then quickly analysed it and therefor didn't get a representative sample although it could have been due to a wet or old sensor.

If the shop analysis suprises you or them then you need another analyser to verrify it's right before you dive (even if it doesn't suprise then it's a good idea)!

Or a dodgy LCD display!, easy to mis read a an 8 as a 5 if they display is poor. Either way a good example of always rechecking you mix. Its very difficult to go back to a shop to complain after an o2 hit at 20 mtrs when you switched to what you thought was 50 was actually 80. You can mend a bend as they say, but a full o2 hit underwater is something I dont want to see.

Get an analyser, you know it makes sense!

i have an analox for my own use ... and a "vandergraph" one for the boat cos the sensor is cheaper and easier to replace when it gets wet . goes through lots of batteries tho
