I've had the same problem, i find that if you point the irda at the computer at a slight angle it will pick it up, if that doesn't work then............I'm not sure myself..

I have had this problem a couple of times, it normally occurs when smarttrak has started a connection but somehow lost it during 'initialisation' the only way I found to fix it was to close & restart smarttrak or in extreme cases reboot.

There is a new(ish) version of smarttrak out 1.0.4.2 that may fix your woes

UWATEC - SmartTrak Software

Has it ever worked? if not maybe your irda is just not compatable... there is a list on the above webpage of compatable units.

Ahhhh on the Aldin Tec there are a few that have an IR problem and have to go back to get fixed, they do charge sometimes but the best option is give them a ring first and they will check the serial number

Had this problem.

First - have you go the up to date software loaded.

Second - is your computer a Dell - they don't like the IR ports on the aladins (Scubapro told me this rather helpfully when I couldn't download anything) If you do - try putting the computer on a copy of the yellow pages so it is higher than desktop height and it *may* fix the issue.

After reading the posts, i tried my aladin tech "the new type" its 11 months old. and guess what it wont download data to the pc anymore. Comes up with error message of Dive computer not found.
So i tried other infa red devices and they still worked with my PC. DL the updated Smart trek program and tried that, still no conection. So i rang Aladin today who said take it back to the retailer for posting onto them.
Rang my retailer who was not very happy about me taking it into them they would prefer me to send it direct.
Projected turnaround for repair 3-6weeks

One of the other causes of this problem is the MAcafee virus software would block the download.

Yep that was my problem, you have to close Mcafee then do the download and then restart your PC to start the antivirus software.

It's hearing things like this which makes me a bit nervous about buying another Uwatec - I have an Aladin Pro ATM. If the service is this bad in Europe, where they actually make them and lets face it, no more than 2 hours flying time from a factory choccerblock with factory trained maintenance technicians with all the spares in the bottom drawer, what's it going to be like in Aus? If it's anything like the service you get from agents for some other overseas manufacturers, pretty bloody poor I'd reckon.
