Depends on what your planning? One for each wrist and one to keep in your pocket for when you lose one trying to pull a porthole off or grabbing a lobster.

If you're getting a little bouyant at the end of the dive, a fourth might come in handy

Gary I really cant understand the need for so many, my LDS has three but that is because they are a shop, hang on a minute, I see the connection, yeah 3 is fine, in fact why stop at 3??
