should i buy a VR3 and where is cheapest?

i have had a rather nice cheque back from the inland revenue and i would like to buy a top of the line computer that will (hopefully) not need to be replaced when i start doing really big dives - i may consider RB diving in the distant future.

i am going into nitrox right now and will be diving it almost all the time (i would also like to look into trimix in the future), i have a vyper and its doing a good job for me now, but i have been reading up on the vr3 and what it can do - it does seem to be the ideal computer for all diving that i see myself ever doing. - any one got a basic vr3 for sale?

the facts are:
i have a little cash and i would like a (semi) futureproof computer,
i will be diving mixed gasses at some point in the future,
if i can convince the missus i would like to dive a rebreather in the distant future, (we'll see on that one!)
its very shiney and looks cool?

If thats the way you plan to progress your diving then I would recommend the VR3.

Its a superb tool.

I would speak to Barrie Law or Mark Powell on here about your purchase.

If they can't help then you will probably get it from Go dive as cheap as anywhere.

Expect to pay about £575 for an OC nitrox version

Agreed

They are the best, the beauty of them is if you get a dodgy gas fill you simply change the gas on the computer and off you go

if your buying new get the algorithm upgrade

VR3s are good but for little more you get a full on Helium CCR / OC computer in the Shearwater GF.

Full on GF deco programming with 5 oc gas and 5 CCR gas. Theres a much nicer down load package as well.

The Sherewater is a much better diving computer than the VR3 in terms of decompresion options but sadly its an ugly brick of a thing.

Shearwater Research Inc. - Computers for Diving

The Liquivision is also well worth a look. Its a new unit but sounds rrealy interesting.

I'd go for a VR3 again. They're a great tool, and work well.

If you're getting one, get top spec - you'll find the price of a new one with all the gubbins is a lot cheaper than all the upgrades to get it up tot he RB trimix diving you're thinking about. Plus the secondhand value holds much better if it's full spec.

Plus the fac tthey're basically standard issue amongst our lot, so you won't find yourself doing deco at silly different depths with your buddy. The VR3s will be almost identical if you've been for a similar dive.

Digs.

Give us a check out on DivingShop.com - diving equipment supplied secure online we are based in Poole where Delta P are so I get to go over the factory to pick up the units personally. We usually get any problems sorted out quickly as well being so close and Knowing Kev Gurr personally helps.

thanks for the input everyone,

although i would love to get the all singing all dancing color model will everything enabled - i cant stretch past the basic OC monochrome one with the money i have.

the theory being that i can upgrade it when my diving needs it (and funds allow)
