D9

Hi Guy's, I currently have a Stinger.
The dilema is, do I up-grade to a D9 and transmitter or stick with the Stinger?
I quite like the idea of air-intergration, but is it worth the extra outlay?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I changed from a Stinger to a D9 + transmitter at Christmas. So far so good, I've had no problems at all with it but...

It's noticeably bigger than the Stinger was, I don't wear it like a watch so much as I did with the Stinger. Being skinny doesn't help I suppose

Buttons seem harder to use than the Stingers whilst wearing 5mm gloves and having it strapped to a drysuit. I'm sure it's fine in warmer waters but takes some getting used to here.

On the plus side though having the air integration is pretty handy, and once I get a stage cylinder I imagine the gas switching will be pretty useful. The built-in compass works ok, but tbh in the UK I end up using my regular one as it's a bit fiddly holding the button down with the aforementioned gloves on.

If I was doing it again I'd have kept the stinger for abroad and got a Vytec DS for the UK stuff, same features but bigger and easier to operate!

Cheers, Paul K

P.S. I wouldn't sell mine now I have it though!

D9 way to bling bling

To Look cool down the pub or sunning yourself by the pool on holiday the stinger and the D9 are both great.. I think the new Vyper2 is worth a look.

I've had the D9 for over a year and it's great, you need good eyesight to read some of the details though.

The Gas switching feature is great, I use mine although you have to remember that the D9 only supports one transmitter so you loose the SAC rate calculations and you need a gauge for your stage (obviously).

The compass is a PITA and I too use a SK7 instead of the digital one, strange because the digital compass stays switched on in watch mode but in dive mode it only displays for 30 seconds which is never quite enough time to navigate properly.

I do agree that the D9 is a great computer and I never have trouble reading the display or operating the buttons, however if you already have a stinger then keep it and get a Vytec DS with transmitter.
