Uwatec Dive Timer

The new uwatec d timer is out and very nice it is too. I picked up one last week and have to say its very good. Clear display, average depth (not resetable) and overall an improvement. Not worth changing from the old one but if your looking for a simply gauge then its fine. I still prefer my tec2 (because its got a stopwatch so you can time stops) but for under £100 this is pretty good.

There do seem to be a lot of the old one cropping up on ebay and elsewhere. Anybody done a serious dive with one yet!!! - I am not including a dip in wraysbury where mine got tested.

And a second hand. And resettable average depth so it's not borked by the descent.

If they added all this items, people wouldn't spend and extra £200 on a computer. I think the clue is in the name "Dive timer"

it could have a little cuckoo that came out when it was time to ascend to the next stop.

I'm going to treat that comment with the contempt it deserves. Besides, it's a ridiculous idea. You now have to think of a scuba solution for the cuckoo, and train it in ratio deco. I'm pretty sure a cuckoo couldn't breathe off a standard second stage, so we'd have to work that into our S drills for gas donations. Potentially this would mean another regulator just for the bird, which is adding another failure point. We don't have any empirical evidence about the suitability of ratio deco for cuckoos, so it might set a dangerous precedent to just say "it could have a cuckoo" as you might end up inadvertently injuring the cuckoo.

I just can't see that working. You should be more responsible with the things you type.

<shakes head> It would be a wooden cuckoo.

Honestly.

FFs, have you learnt nothing. Wood is just going to degrade in salt water, although that's not a problem for you, is it land lubber. This cuckoo idea just sounds more and more daft. It's going to come out at the extact moment you need to ascend? That sounds like a major distraction, not to mention an entanglement hazard. Plus, its now another bit of kit you have to rely on. what are you going to do when it inevitably rots away or breaks off. Think, man, think.
