VR3 & Vytec or Vyper 2's

Due to some impulse decisions my diving (and diving equipment!) has been all over the shop the past few years! Which has left me with some odd bits of equipment.

At moment I'm diving with twin 12's (nitrox) and small stages (ali40's 50%) for diving upto 40m with accelerated deco... I use a vytec at the moment, which I supplemented with a VR3 I bought from from Mark Chase. The VR3 isn't getting much use at the moment as 1) I'm scared I'm going to lose it lugging equipment about on the RIB, and 2) When I'm on the RIB there's not much room for stages and 3) Most of the people I dive with are running computers that don't utilise deepstops, and they can get a bit upset when you start dstopping them at 17m for two minutes!

I'm thinking of selling the VR3/Vytec and getting a couple of Vyper 2's. Then at least I'm running two computers with the same algorithms and I can turn deep stops on and off. The only drawback to this is I don't get the "look ahead" decompression profile based on the mixes I'm carrying...

Any other ideas/suggestions?

Club VR3?

What features do you use on them that are not available on say a Vyper or Gecko?

If you wish to use deep stop tell them to learn Pyles stuff, will put it in clubs files.

Update: has been put in club files

And I'll even nip down the Spring Shop for a spring and you can have some one-off Woz Straps too. Go on. You know you want to. The Quantum doesn't knacker you if you make up deep stops as you go along. Which- let's face it- is all the other computers are doing anyway.

Having used a Vytec as a deco computer I can say with confidance it makes and excelent bottom timer.

Having owned a VR3 (Your one in fact ) I can say it makes a damed fine deco computer.

The ONLY reasion i would give up a VR3 is to go for the Shearwater house brick. Which i wish was like the VR3 in every other way except the profile and the down load software.

Deep stops are a good thing, stick with the VR3 dont down grade to a Suunto XXX.

Hi Mark,

Have you read this months diver re. deep stops? Page 14 I think.

Bearing in mind the Vyper 2 has deep stops (and a compass!) and I only dive in the 40m range using two mixes - would you still stick with the VR3...?

One interesting thing I've noticed is I can follow the profile on the VR3, while also using the Vytec, and they both have you out of the water at roughly the same time.

Anyone even used a Vyper 2 yet...?

What are you planning to do in the future? After someone finishes his book, I'm sure there could be something a bit deeper in the pot. Somehow twin 12's on the Charter doesn't seem to be the most appropiate kit for the job, Although you wouldnt be runnign out of air.

However VR3 what doe it do that is wrong? I would not mind waiting a couple of minutes at certain depths I dont think many people would unless they had little air.

Did you go to Plymouth?

I dont get DIVER for the simple reason that DIVE and DIVER cover the same stuff at different times.

Yes because the artical on deep stops is bassed on deco on Air not enriched Nitrox. Have you not noticed the VR3 gives shead loads more deco on an air only dive.

Also note the deep stops they refer to are DOTF or Pyle stops not calculated stops. After a 40m dive for 40mins on 28% using a VR3 your first required stop is 9m. The 15 and 24m stops are micro bubble stops you can skip if you like but U wouldent. In fact I would add in a stop at 12m

The Vytec refuses to credit multi level shalow portons of the dive and it has no supporting gas planning software to plan multi gas dives. It has no Total TTS display that looks forward to all deco gas available and it the TTS figure it gives is usualy a mile out. I have often left the bottom with 20mins showing and arrived at 6m with 25mins showing.

If you dont want to do the deep stops on the VR3 just skip them. Its not a problem the VR3 will recalculate your shalow deco accordingly using the slow min function and it will display use tables but still work just fine. You can dive it again same day or next day no problem.

Try doing that on a Vytec.

Alternativly once you arive at the stop use the man on a rope function to start moving the ceiling up.

In short the VR3 is much more flexable than a Vytec and it gives much better profiles.
