| Imported post The garmin etrex summit has a built in altimeter. I've just got the basic etrex so I can't comment how good it is. Mine gives altitude I don't think it logs it. The garmin website is very imformative and useful. |

| Imported post All GPS should show current altitude if working in 3D mode which require at least 4 SV,s ( satellites to be accurate to approx 10maccurracy. Most modern hand held gps are 12 channel and are quick to respond to changes. I havent used any PC software though. Have a look at Garmen or maggellen websites for more info. |
