vyper 1,serial port/usb adapter probs

hi there
having recently purchased a dell 6400,i'm trying to use my old serial port interface with a usb/serial port adapter.adapter downloaded from driver ok.tried hooking up with old 1.6 set up manager,no chance.tried 2.1.3,only seems to recognise a usb cable setup with a d9 computer, and won't/can't recognise anything else.tried manually to attach to com port 4,which is where the adapter driver installed, nothing.anybody help.

hi david
tried it,just won't connect,if you read a bit on the troubleshoot,it seems ,that the usb is for the d9 only, and that anything associated with serial ports + adapters, won't hack with vyper1(or any other suunto dive computer).Tried to change to com port 4 but wouldn't change, saying com port 3 busy, unless i'm missing something.
nothing wrong with the pc interface, which i used on a windows 98 on the 1.6 setup.then again,i did buy it from ebay a number of years ago, compatibility issues?

I tried this and gave up after 2 evenings.
The serial/usb adapter worked with other usb devices.
The serial lead worked to a PC with a serial port, in fact I could prove that all of the components worked, but could not get the PC-adapter-lead-Vyper combination to work.

This is exactly how I use my interface. I have a prolific usb to serial adapter, which comes up as com6 when i plug it in. I still use SDM1.6 as I don't like v2+ but I have tried it and it works with version 2+.

Go into the SDM software and set the com port to the same port as the usb to serial adapter shows up as in device manager. My interface is home made following a circuit diagram from the internet but my buddy has the suunto interface and that works to.

Don't be surprised if the SDM software says it can't see the interface, mine says that, but when I put the vyper on the cable it will transfer.

It does however seem to depend on how good your usb to serial adapter is, the one i got was really cheap (about £4) but it seems to work with everything.

Hope this helps

cheers rob, worked a treat after a bit of manipulaton with the connection, used it on the 1.6 version, wouldn't take on version 2,came up on the com port choice as port 3 busy, and wouldn't change, from what I can see,it's not worth the hassle.Try the above turbanator, you have to bugger about to make sure the terminals have a good contact, otherwise it comes up with a time out message, and you have to start again.Once again thanks rob.I thought i'd bought another useless bit of electronics to be thrown into the back of the cupboard
