That's a pity: sorry about that

On mine if I very briefly press both buttons at the same time it does this. If they're pressed together for a little longer it tries to turn itself off & then is immediately reactivated by the wet contacts. Strange that it should work on mine & not yours: maybe they've changed the inbuilt software configuration.

I will try that as i have been pressing them for longer and it behaves as you say. It seemed to be the only thing I could get it to do, other than activating the back light! I think if I can turn off the wet sensors I will leave them off though

Yeah, it took me ages to work out how to do this: I did it accidentally once or twice, but at first couldn't figure out exactly what I'd done.

I literally press the 2 buttons for an instant: 0.1 sec or something. Any longer & it doesn't work. I can only presume that this feature was added to allow the computer to enter the log book or dive plan modes when in a wet environment (rain, RIB etc.). I couldn't find instructions for this in the manual.

I find it quite useful as it allows me to enter the log book function etc. straight after a dive & also to power down the computer to conserve the battery. Only thing is that I do quite often forget to turn the contacts back on before the next dive but that's no disaster as stated above.

Just got in and was able to do exactly what you suggested I am now able to access all the other features outside of dive mode

Scrott saw the sea in a book once
I contacted UWatec about this issue, and specifically asked about switching the contacts off. Here is what they said:

"
The problem you have experienced occurs mainly when Salt residue bridges the contacts on the front of the unit causing the unit to remain in dive mode. This can be solved by either washing and drying the unit after diving or as you describe by turning off the water contacts.

If the water contacts are turned off the unit will not automatically activate when you enter the water. However it will activate once at a depth of 0.6m. The pressure is checked once every 60 seconds. This means that it can take upto 1 minute from the time you descend for the unit to activate and so could cause a slight discrepancy in the recorded Dive Time. The unit will not penalise you for this and will actually show a very slightly reduced nitrogen loading and so lower deco requirement. Due to the large safety margins in recreational dive computers this is a very minor issue but should always be considered when using a computer.

My recommendation would always be to check your computer within the first couple of metres of your decent to check that it is working correctly. This is good to do with all kit to ensure that any issues do not escalate into a problem.
"

Hope that helps....

I believe that the same statement is written in the DC manual.
