Is it because you haven't used it in computer mode (ie recording depth & time, so it assumes the worst, that you've done an aggressive dive & built up a high N2 saturation.

Actually, maybe I'm not that big a fool.....I think,. I've answered my own question. So basically it's to save Suunto's arse in the courts?
I am not normally a Suunto apologist but having seen the way some people delegate the whole of their dive management to their computers, I can understand why Suunto took the approach they have.

The D9 works with the same philosophy as all the other Suunto computers so if you owned a Vyper you should have known that would happen. When all else fails RTFM!

erm.. ok..

Just for info I don't delegate the whole of my dive management to my computer! Did I say that?

I just didn't like the fact it locks out, thought it might be a prob with the D9.... and assuming i'm using a DC to assist.. the facility to overide the lockout would be better IMO.

It's not my computer.. i was simply asking for info for a mate.. not looking for a lecture on how foolish i may or may not be.

Chuffin 'eck..

Please don't take the comment I made personally, it was not directed at you ... merely at divers in general....

Having said that though, if your mate has not read the manual and was not aware of this feature, doesn't it make you wonder what else he does not know about the computer?

No worries... Not sure how up to speed he is with it to be honest, and as it was new i dare say he was still getting used to it (i'd leant him my old Gekko as a backup)

I said i'd post about this issue in YD as i was sure i'd get the answer.

Thanks for all the replies.. i'll pass it on

Regards,

Mike

Yesterday I did a dive with my D9 to 89.5m in gauge mode.

I am going diving today, it wouldn't let me into dive mode because it doesn't know the gas loadings from yesterday, it didn't record them because I put it in gauge mode which tells it not to record.

Leave it in Dive mode all the time. In fact leave it in nitrox mode, 21% for air obviously, as it won't let you switch that either.
