| Ahh that's what happens when you spend all that money on a pretend computer. I'm sure BJ will be along in a moment to extoll the virtues and explain the operator error |

Would that be the reason? Mal |

| Yep - in gauge mode you cannot get back into dive mode for 48 hours G . |

| Had exactly the same thing with mine. Arrived in Egypt and jumped in the pool with the watch set to gauge mode. Rewarded for efforts with a long lockout Cheers, Paul K |

Ok then, so you set it to gauge mode.. then it locks out for 48 hours.. hmm. Right so if someone buys a D9, goes off for 2 weeks diving, first day snorkels down to max 5m.. D9 then advises: a) Can't fly for 48 hours b) 600 quids worth of DC you can't use as a DC for 2 days because you went snorkelling with it .. huh? Am i missing something or is that just a bit crap? |

| In gauge mode it doesn't record any gas loadings that you may have been exposed to. What would happen if you violated stops today in gauge mode then went diving tomorrow in dive mode? Always RTFM! All computers that have a gauge mode should do the same. |

| Maybe leave the D9 on the boat and take your backup dive timer instead if you really need to know basic info whilst snorkelling. G . |

What he said!! Whilst normally I am an advocate of things working intuitively and the way you would like/expect them to, I think I have to draw the line with something like a dive computer. Despite the way people use them, they do not protect a diver from DCI but are a means of providing that diver with information to combine with their own knowledge of the subject, to assist them in avoiding DCI. If the diver does not know how to use that information to assist him then more fool him, I would say. Mal |

Is it because you haven't used it in computer mode (ie recording depth & time, so it assumes the worst, that you've done an aggressive dive & built up a high N2 saturation. Actually, maybe I'm not that big a fool.....I think,. I've answered my own question. So basically it's to save Suunto's arse in the courts?
