| Until recently I would have said consider the Aladin Prime. We were happy with ours, till the batteries died. My wifes now eats new batterias in days, without even getting wet, and mine will not go into surface mode very easily (like, for hours, even after being dried out fully), and got through 3 batteries in 5 dives. Also, the IR packed up on both. I have also heard nasty things about the Quantum's reliability, but they may have solved this by now. I'd say go for a Suunto. No-one seems to have a bad word to say about them. Phil

| I like my Quantum now I've sorted out the User Error. Ahem. And I got mine for £140 brand new from the Dive Show. They appear to be somewhat pricier now.

| The Mares M1 computer will be going cheaply at the dive show, last year I picked one up for about 90 pounds. It does all the usual stuff, and all the nitrox stuff, but isn't suitable for the deeper trimix etc etc (as you would expect, really) I quite like the computer, and bought one new at last years show after having a second hand one for a while. I like it, especially for the money...

| Oh and reading your last post, the Mares M1 uses 2 x AAA batteries, and is user changeable in about ooooh 10 seconds

| How about a Cressi Archimedes II Its the same computer as the Apeks Quantum but cheaper (or was when i bought mine) £200 including the download cable from last years dive show (Birmingham) |

| Gekko!! You can use it for years and then flog it for more than you paid for it on ebay when you want to upgrade. |

I bought the original Cressi Archimedes a few years ago and it's still gonig strong. The batteries are easy to change too. I also won a Suunto D6 in the Scuba Trust raffle. Both do Nitrox but the Suunto allows you to run two mixes for gas switching. Both computers run almost identical profiles, but the Suunto seems to take a little longer at clearing my safety stop, even though they both reach 5m reading the same. I actually prefer the easy-to-read face of my Cressi, and find the D6 a bit too small to read at a glance. As others have said, there are cheaper and 'bigger' Suunto's to choose from.
