New Laptop
looking for a new laptop for daughter - anyone have anything they would
recommend - I have an ACER and wonder if there were any other
recommendations.

IMHO Acer are good. At work I have an HP and my personal laptop is DELL I find both of them good. A friend of mine has got an ACER the display is amazing. But all depends on the specs and price brackets.

I do not live in the UK but a friend of mine got a good deal from PC world. I think they offered free delivery to anywhere in the UK.

Have a shuftie on the Dell website for their Outlet. You can pick up bargains there where people have returned laptops when they have chaned their minds. Also bear in mind that you may need to add:

Laptop case (Tescos)
Mouse (SVP: DVD-R & CDR - Blank Media: Reviews and Advice do some great retractable ones)
USB 2.0 hub (again SVP)
Wireless network adapter (SVP if it isn't already in-built)
Card reader (SVP if it isn't already in-built)

Alternatively I think JAG was selling one on here recently that was well-specced. Dunno if it sold or not. Might be worth a PM.

Acer seem to be the best balance of price, performance, reliability and features. Sony are nicer designed (IMO), but much more expensive to get something similar in spec to the Acers.

Have a look at this web site they are reliable I have used them for lots of stuff. Cant comment on the actual lap tops but if you see something I am sure other can advise.
