Cressi archemede II problem

I have a Cressi Archimede II which has performed faultlessly for the last 11 months.

However, the battery went flat so i replaced it with a new Energizer CR2032.
I did the next dive, no problems, but on the Rhib ride back the computer 'crashed', by going blank then back to the default time / date (12:00 1/1/2005).
Assuming that the battery might of not been inserted correctly, i removed and replaced it again.
Next dive no problems.
The following dive (today) i checked the Nitrox setting was correct and rolled in, 1 minute later it bleeping away like mad, flashing up PO2! WTF!, I carried on to the bottom of the shot line, cleared my mask (new mask was not quite tight enough) and rechecked my computer, still flashing up PO2, then i noticed the depth, it was reading 85m!! on a 30m max wreck! (HMS Brazen).
The total dive time was working fine, so i carried on the dive, watching my time.

I have since downloaded the dive onto my laptop and the max depth was 105m!!
So obviously the depth gauge sensor is buggered.

Although its just about still under guarantee (by 1 day) i have informed Cressi of the previous 'fault' and they are happy for me to send it back to the UK importer (in Brighouse,West Yorkshire) to look at it.
But there is my big problem, I'm off to the Red Sea on the 27th of October, so need it back (or rather a replacement) before then. If they have to send it back to the main HQ in Italy it will take up to a week to get it there.

What else can i do to speed this up??

(p.s. we are diving the same wreck again tomorrow so i have borrowed a buddy's Cressi computer to run alongside mine - i have pressed the reset button to clear the "missed deco" the computer calculated i should of done [44 mins dive at 85m average depth = sh1t loads of deco] to double check it is knackered.)

would this be the one he 'brought up' last week

Nigel is actually on the same Rhib anyway (and was yesterday, and last week when depending on who you talk to when it came up / didn't quite come up)

borrow something from a mate for the red sea trip. Lets face it unless it's an Quantum [they just send a new one by return], nothing technical you send for examination/repair is going to be back in a month.

That was my first thought Dave, but then i realized that everybody i know with a Cressi is actually going on the trip , so short of buying another one (which i can't afford at the moment) and then ending up with 2 when / if they replace mine, there is little i can do to speed up getting mine repaired / replaced?

(agreed a spare would be a good idea tho')

you don't have to borrow a cressi, any 2 mix nitrox computer will do they're all much the same anyway, prostitue yourself around your club and if that fails hire from the dive centre/live aboard for the week.

Cressi, don't talk to me about bloody cressi mate. Crap. We bought two in Luxembourg and have had no bother at all. However, both needed new batteries for the dive on Friday. (You can guess the next bit can't you...)

Mine refuses to power up at all. Its gone back to meet its maker....

Kelly's powered up Ok and appeared to work OK.

So we did the Scylla, me on the old Aladin (c1980) and Kelly on the Archimede 2. Now me, I got to about 17m/45min on the dive, upper deck and first level plus the bridge. Jolly nice. Some big old Pollack and a couple of big Bass. Kelly was never out my sight. So how the fuck she managed to rack up 64.8m and an hour's deco I don't know.

Second dive was the Layne and I reset the Cressi for that. This time OK. So now we need to do a couple more just to be sure its really OK.

Seiko - Shit.

Chris

Chris,

after a chat with Cressi UK, it appears the problem is with the battery, although the Energizer battery was dated 2014, they don't have enough milli amps for the job, (they are OK in warm water though) they recommend Varta batteries, so i changed the battery for a new Varta, the last 20 dives have all been perfect.

Thanks for the tip Martin. The one that has gone back has (yep) an Energizer. Kelly's has a Duracell in it. I did however swap the batteries around and still mine wouldn't power up. If that's all it is I now have 14 quids' worth of useless batteries. Humph...

I'm afraid the Cressi has now gone onto my "avoid" list. The choice of battery should not affect the viability of mission critical equipment. Ebay beckons......
