| Heart Rate Monitor Hi all I was wondering if anyone has experimented with a heart rate monitor while diving? Im interested in recording my heart rate during a dive. I do not want to buy the expensive dive computer currently on the market to do this, and was wondering if anyone had tried taking a standard pulsar or similar on a dive with them? Im guessing that by having the watch in your pocket during the dive should be sufficient enough to pickup the chest strap. Thoughts welcome Cheers Robert |

| I did. One issue though, be careful the pressure doesnt break the LCD in the actual watch receiver - mine was ok on a 12m dive but ive had a mobile phone screen break before now on a 35m dive when i forgot to take it out of pocket pre dive. As for pulse, only done it once, was a fairly relaxed dive and was around the 80 mark for me. Highest rate was kitting up which i absolutely hate and get knackered doing. Will try it again next time. Not sure what the affect of being frozen will have on it but as winter is here i suspect i'll find out.

| The back of my Polar says water resistant to 30m... so it might be OK... I might take it on a shallow dive in a couple of weeks time (under the drysuit) just to see! I'm guessing that my heart rate max will be doing the highland fling trying to get my fins on in my "slightly too snug" drysuit... interested to know what my HR will be doing underwater though - I will set the zone for 80-90Bpm and see how long I spend "in zone" on the dive - a bit of experimentation and I should be able to pin down a normal HR underwater. |

| Cheers guys. Saliorboy let me know how it went, and more importantly does the watch still work after the dive!! Off to scan ebay now then.... |

| 30 meter = can be used for washing up :D Quote:

| These water resistance claims are all rubbish, they are all static ratings, as soon as you move it all goes out of the window. How about putting the watch in a waterproof box, take the guts out of a torch or something like. It'll be interesting to find out what happens, doesn't the pulse rate drop under water - mammalian reflex or something. MM
