Thumbs up The new VR3 software

Well as usual DeltaP has done it again for me,

i placed my VR3 in for repair a week ago as the colour screen was damaged and i didn’t want to take it away with me, It turned out that it needed a new LCD, no problems there DeltaP changed it at cost for me they also placed a new battery in it new seals and O rings and updated the software to version 2007.3 Free of Charge.

Now the new software has some really good features which make it now a very good computer to get even when you’re just starting out so I’ll mention the new features

For the beginner there is the Q setting!
Basically this is for users who haven’t used the VR3 before and need to get going it gives you the following

1.Simplified layout in dry and dive screen
2.Simpler menu format and setup screens
3.Maximum of three gasses only

So when on the boat you have the following

1.Main screen shows enabled gases with MOD (Maximum operating depth)
2.No fly time display top left
3.Battery voltage top centre
4.Surface Interval top right

In dive mode (when you’re in the water)

1.Depth and time displayed in big graphics permanently during dive
2.Max depth and Time to surface including deco obligations on right side
3.Press the button and you get average depth display cool eh

Normal mode (out of box configuration)
This is for when you get used to the computer and progress your diving or if you have had a VR3 and know what every thing does, but don’t what to overload yourself

This is the standard VR3 mode as every other one but has one difference on the second screen there is average depth displayed (but i still bet my lunch that the dark side wont be using these for that....And it’s a big lunch!!!!!)

So on to Q mode Expert
This gives you a number of extra features for the diver including rebreather divers with pre set bail out switch over and deco profile this also has a screen saver mode which can be used when on large graphic information is displayed like

1. Average depth or
2.Time to surface or
3.Current PO2 from the external oxygen cell

This can be switched on and off in the dive modes screen there is also a few other add on like

1.Bailout profile for CCR divers so that in the poo fan moment they can activate a pre set open circuit gases when ditching the Closed circuit
2.New second screen which as the others shows average depth but can be reset to support dive calculations (logs kept)
3.Average depth display in dive and surface mode for dive logs

In all some good add on’s for an already great computer which now doesn’t make it scary for the new diver who wants a computer to go from the basic through to whatever diving the want to end up doing

Hope this helps someone

Graham

is there instructions with the new software or did you work it all out yourself?

I'm waiting to get mine back yet again
maybe the new software will be small recompense for the frustration of 3 returns in less than 2 years!
My wife's Apeks is more reliable - but a lot less useful.

I think you've just been very, very unlucky - I owned a VR3 for a few years and never had any problems with it whatsoever and friends who also own them have similar experiences.

I think I proably have been.
From new there were problems with the logging screens. Return 1
Then it decided to flood at 62M - long live tables. Return 2
The last one was to reset whilst at the huge depth of c.18m in the Farnes when it decided to loose everything, use a battery a day and lose most surface functionality. It seemed to work in water without the security of gas selection but.......... Return 3

In between times it has been a fantastic bit of kit and I would recommend to all and sundry and will not change it unless a VRXXX is on the horizon

Delta P have provided excellent service too.

Good Service from DElta P

New Software sounds interesting .....only problem I had with mine was I bought a spares kit incl Battery Cover ........This looked the same but when changing to a new 3.6v battery I could not get the battery in the old cover ........got the new one out the bag and No Problems slotted in nicely ?
Well looked okay worked okay and then got it out in the med and no power then fluttered on and off?

Then I decided to use it as backup it came on at 4 metres recorded dive etc and switched off on ascent ?

Now I couldn't get the battery cover out .......seized solid ....aaahhh!
People at Delta P contacted and there was a batch of over large covers made which get stuck in the unit ..asked to use any force necessary to remove it ....ripped it out using metal pincers and they sent me all new cover etc 24 hrs later........worked fine ever since

Good service and speedy
