Air Z Nitrox - Toast???

I think that my trusty Aladin may be terminally ill!

For the past 10 dives or so it's been indicating that I'm at varying levels of altitude, I'm not, I'm at sea level (and less a lot of the time).

I've e-mailed Kent Diving who've suggested that it is indeed toast and will happliy sell me another computer (good of them, I thought!). I'm awaiting a response from Uwatec direct to see what they say.

I don't really want to junk it as I've recently had the battery changed.

Any thoughts anyone?

I'd recommed trying out different puters if yours has bitten the bullet... If I was buying now I'd consider a quantum...

It might be something pretty straight forward which Uwatec can fix. A mate had a similar issue with his Uwatec a couple of years back and they saw him right.

IIRC that was a Smartcom or something so not the same and it wouldn't have been as old but their support was very good.

In terms of new computers I have spent the last couple of weeks drooling over a buddies X1. Not the same beast or price range but damn that is a sweet bit of kit. At depth and in shitty vis it was easier to look over and read his display than it was my own. So small and yet clear - it made my Shearwater look like a C64 that had rocked next to a MacBook Pro... Interesting to see how long the batteries really last on those puppies because they are toast when it goes flat.

Rob i may be wrong, but i think i read somewhere they are making the battery user replaceable.

Where did you get the battery changed, was it through Scubapro.
If so speak to their Tech chap and he will advise you what can be done.

If that's the case I'm ordering one - end of story. If they come up with decent solution to reading cells then I'd ditch the Shearwater and get two of them.

Rob from the liquidvision website

Hardware Specifications

Battery life up to 20 hours of actual dive time between recharges

Battery never needs to be replaced

Now how much are they ?

Yeah it also implies that it has a li-ion battery which would make sense. Unfortunately li-ion degrades quite rapidly so 'never needs to be replaced' simply wouldn't be true. It may last several years which may meet most peoples requirements but to say 'never' is a bit dubious IMO.

I'm interested to see how long they really last once there are enough them out in field to get a feel for it.
