| I think you may need to reassess your budget, A gas switching Suunto (Vytec DS, 3 gases, bit not trimix) is about £300 or thereabouts. AFAIUI, the VR£, trimix, is about £1k. If it is less, it isn't much less. I have no idea how much other trimix computers are, but probably around the same. I did hear a rumour that the technology used for the Vytec DS etc may be used to develop a trimix suunto.

| Shearwater is another option, but you won't get one for £400. I have seen a couple come up secondhand, but couldn't tell you how much they went for. There's the Pursuit (the new, VR3 sized one) and the Original one (bigger, housebrick sized one) - either will do you fine. Personally I'd reccomend secondhand VR3. There's quite a few on the market, and despite various other options they're still the industry standard trimix computer IMO. On most boats for 50m+ diving out of the 12 divers on board you'll probably find 50% are using VR3. There's probably a couple usnig tables while they save up to buy a VR3, and a couple of others who are using something else, either Shearwater possibly, a convoluted way of using a Suunto or similar, or a less common option, something like an Explorer or Cochran. You can get a secondhand trimix VR3 for £400 no problem. If you want a decent model (they do vary a little bit) or you want added features (4th cell enabled etc) then the price goes up. That said, I've not seen a VR3 change hands for less than the high £300s. Partly because even the old models are perfectly fine, and fairly easily upgraded with Delta P. Best thing to do is have a good old search on here for any names that come up in this or similar threads. You will find someone with an axe to grind on just about any piece of equipment in the world, but also a lot of users who are very happy with many. Except the Buddy Pocket Reel. No-one likes them I would suggest if you are just getting into trimix (which it sounds like you are from the question) that you go and dive with some trimix divers and use a dive timer and tables. Fnid out what they use. Find otu if there's a team you are going to be divnig with all the tmie what they use, as there's no point you running an algorithm that is goign to have you at different stop depths and times throughout. I like the fact that I know on most boats I get onto what the others will be doing for deco. You get that very quickly by diving with people and you can get a good idea what you are comfortable with. Digs. |

I wouldent be looking at diving trimix if you have a tight budget, check out the price of Helium where you want to dive 1st. Even if you take your own J and mix heliox yourself you'll need a HE analizer and digital filling whip. But get yoursel a VR3. G.

I just bought my first mix, in preparation for the end of my course. It is a relatively weak one - 19/30 - and it still cost me £32!... for one dive!
