Recommend me my first dive computer

looking to buy my first dive computer (ease of use and functionality are high on the priority list) and I seem to have narrowed it down to the Suunto Gekko or D4

which would you recommend?

or should I be looking at anything else?

Thanks

I had a Mosquito as my first computer, the D4 has now replaced it. Because it is a watch style you can always wear it so;
1) less chance of losing it
2) Less chance it getting damaged in a kit bag.
It is smaller but I never had any problems reading it.
John

suunto vyper is a good first computer as it has the ability for you to move onto nitrox if you choose to use that gas as well!
in fact most of the suunto computers are ok

Cressi

Have you had a look at the Cressi EDY? It is watch sized but even with my eyesight I can read it underwater. It does Enriched air and is quite simple and not too chunky.

If you insist on using a device that gives you the "feeling" of being in control of your destiny and need something simple, just grab a tried and true Vyper.

Otherwise, get lessons in Ratio and control your own destiny. And goget yourself an Uwatec digi300

Gekko

Suunto Gekko,

Does nitrox, loads in my club have them, if your starting out in diving, great piece of kit.

Costs a tad under £150.

Cheer's

Gareth.

I started with a Mosquito and (after I eventually managed to leave it on a ferry) moved to a Vyper II. I was happy with the Mosquito, it did many dives with no issues, but as I now need lenses for close up stuff I really like the larger display on the Vyper.

I think the Vyper is a very good, medium cost, computer and Suunto have a very good reputation.

D4 will also do Nitrox and deep stops if required.

does the D4 have a "backlight?" - is a "backlight" necessary?
