| Imported post <font color='#0000FF'>Just got back from the Azores (trip report to follow sometime this week) and heard of a fatality of a diver who run out of air but his SPG still noted 30bar, apparently a grain of sand jammed the indicator. I've also heard of the background (where the numbers are printed) to slip to indicate wrong readings). This made me wonder on the reliability of SPG's, by the way how many of you have them serviced? In the ideal world maybe AI computer and a backup SPG is the best combination? (P.S Azores was great, wait for the trip report

| Imported post <font color='#000080'>I use a Vytec in gauge mode. It's an excellent tool for running deco and is all that is required for even the most advanced trimix dives (with proper training). The resetable stopwatch feature is indespensible. Avoid AI! Regards, Mark. |

| Imported post Im looking to get a new computer to replace my Mares Survayeor... what would you recomend? ive got my eye on the Suunto range... especially the Vyper, Vytec or stinger.. what are your revomendations? and Comments? Thanks |

| Imported post <font color='#000080'>I have a suunto vytec. Nice computer, great if you want to switch gasses while on nitrox. Love the way it has buttons not wee contacts that you have to lick your fingers for. All the comments that i have heard say dont get a transmitter - they seem to be considered a waste of money by all i have spoken too, although im sure someone will disagree. HTH helen

| Imported post i think its prob best to add some more information about what i require for a dive computer. At the moment i only dive on air and am unlikly to get into nitrox and other gas mixes in the near future but dont want to have to buy a new computer if i do decide to change my mind. Also i only ever dive abroad, but im starting uni (imperial) in october and i assume there is a dive club there that i can join to do some diving in the UK! Is the stinger big enough to be seen easily? The stinger and the Vytec are about the same price and the Vyper is about £100 cheaper... is the £100 extra worth it? if so which would be best to suit my needs? (Stinger or Vytec) bear in mind that im a student with no job and an expensive hobby... thanks |

| <font color='#FF0000'>i use a couple of computers vr3 and vyper, the vyper is a lovely little computer and would recomend it to any one it dose prity much all you need, and so far i've used it for a couple of years as a primry computer and had no problems, i did think for a wile about the stinger but these things are sensertive pieses of equipment and my thinking was if i wear it all day with nocks and banges could i trust it when it maters if i got one it would be as a back up, personaly i would'nt bother with the transmiter for the vtec i think knowing your air contents is very inpotant!so can you trust a little battery and transmiter to give you good info! so if your not getting the transmiter i belive there's nothing between the viper/vtec i may be wrong but im quit shour someone will put me right hope this helps in some way best regards narked at 90

| Imported post thanks narked at 90.... i have no intention of getting the transmitter.... it seams like a waste of money... i dont think im going to spend £250 extra just so i can read my air on the computer rather than reacing for console... its just a gimick i think... |

| Hi Luke I dive with a Surveyor and have found it excellent. The deco info is good and the constant backlight for night dives is great. It has user replaceable batteries and logs 50 dives on memory, and more with just highlights. It has a descent size screen and is now available new for about £120. From what you have said about your diving, why change? I can see no benafit and you say money is an issue?? James

| Imported post I was thinking more of as a backup computer, or possibly selling on my old one... i see your point though... i got started looking for a new computer when i liked the look of the Citizen Aqualand watches. (as i need a new watch) then found that for the same price i could get a stinger... but not too sure anymore! |
