| Imported post I have a Vyper that I use for 'normal' diving Air or 1 mix of nitrox. If I use say 50% for deco, I tend to run the air times and use the 50% as a safety margin. If I use trimix, then the Vyper gets switched into gauge mode and gets used as a downloadable d-timer, and I run the dive using tables. I'm happy to do this: a) 'cos I can't justify a Vytec or a VR3 b) I tend to plan a little too deep, and so build a little safety into the square profile that way c) I only do 1 mix dive a day best tip ever given to me as a beginner - "spend the money you'd spend on a computer on a decent dry suit, get to know the tables inside-out so you know if your computer is playing tricks on you"

| Imported post <font color='#000080'>Personally I use a vytec with the sender unit it is handy and I use it as one of my sets of gauges. The sender units will be around second hand shortly I'm sure of that so buying one new now might not be the wisest move. I've never used a stinger but have had a vyper and I don't think you can go far wrong with with one. My only thought on buying a stinger as a nice watch / dive computer is that it might be okay at first but after a while surely its going to get scratched and knocked about as kit does on dives. No doubt somebody will be along shortly to shoot me down. Best of luck whatever you choose. John. |

| Imported post I've got about 250 dives on my Stinger and have never had a problem reading it, even at 70m (obviously only in gauge mode then!). For deeper stuff I use an Uwatec Digital as primary timing device with the Stinger as backup as I can't afford 2 VR3's (yet, I hope Mrs I doesn't find this site). Ian

I've used my stinger on almost 60 dives now, in viz ranging from extremely crap and onto night dives and most between. Never had a problem reading the display. (There is a backlight) Every bit of kit is subject to wear and tear, the Stinger being no exception, though the display is scratch resistant. I'm sure there a plenty of people that have dropped their consoles onto concrete whilst kitting up and subsequently scratched/cracked the LED display? Just a case of being aware of your surroundings and pre-empting any minor accidents? I also went for the stinger because it's compact, caters for EAN up to 50%, able to download to PC and is very shiny!! All the best, Ian

| Imported post went to my LDS to have a look, tried on the stinger and the vyper... i really liked the Stinger, but i think its too much money. As i dont think that i would wear it as a watch so whats the point.. so ive ordered a Vyper from robin hood place! going to make a interface too as im not spending £55 on that! |

| New 'Pooter Denny Diving have got some computers on offer! I'm looking to possibly get me first. I'm not looking for anything that will do exceptional things. Just a starter computer (the second consideration with this criteria is budget!. The two Im looking at are the Oceanic at 145.99 and the Sunnto for £7 more! Any advise beucase the spec sheet on the Oceanic is toooooo confusing!!!! http://www.divingdirectshop.co.uk/ac...UTERSSALE.html K XX |

| Get the Sunnto, my experiance with the suport in the uK has been very good and Sunnto's are much loved kit by most divers. That said i would push the boat out and get the Vyper so you can down load the dives. Looking at your dive profiles is very educational. Why not get a second hand Vyper? should be able to get a good one easy for less than £150.00 ATB Mark Chase
