Exclamation Vytec vs VR3

Hello all,

Today we had a dive planned to 60m on air (don't loose the topic please about deep air, everyone makes their own choices ) with 60% for deco! Unfortunatly our dive had been blown off ( very fine ship wreck) and we ended up diving in Gozo, obviously not ideal for our plan but would be good as training dive and build up! We always use tabels for such dives and have our computers to back the plan! As you can see our profile below it was not a square dive and we ended diving a reef , instead of a wreck! What struck me most was that the Vr3 taking account for deep stops cleared after 61min and the Vytec cleared after 76min, which is 15min more than the Vr3. Could this be only because of deep stops (both comp. were factory set and nothing been changed!)

Question

Hi Pierre

Not realy sure, but I know the Vytek takes a long time to clear if your final stop is not near its deco "ceiling", so it may not be counting down very quick if you are at say, 7m, but would go down quicker if you were at say, 5m? You may have the answere yourself if you check both profiles together? Did these track each other untill the final ascent or stops or was the Vytec adding extra deco from the start?

James

Well my new VR3 has gave me the opposite idea, I reckon it give me more deco than my previous one (Aladin) Suunto's do have a reputaion for being very cautious.
I found the 19m and 11m metre stops on the 35m NS dives I was doing a bit odd, I usually only do these deep stops on dives over 50m!

I'll keep saying it, in the hopes that someone listens

The Vytec has a VERY conservative model, that DOESNT do any recognised form of "deep" stop. I keep hearing people say that they do, but I've owned one and used it on reasonably aggressive dives in the 40-60m range and it just seemed to generate loooong shallow stops.

As someone else said, the suunto's also dont seem to credit for deco stops that are more than 3m deeper than the "recommended" depth.

Suunto make very reliable computers (which certain other manufacturers could learn from), but they dont make any that generate a deco curve in line with more modern deco theory, despite their claims.

Happy diving

I quite agree with the above the Sunnto gives 'deeper' stops than conventional Nitrox computers but not what you would call proper deep stops. Deepest stop I have had is 22m on the Sunnto after a 30min at 60m dive.

As for reliability???? I am on Vytec no 3 under warrantee and still n my first VR3 so its obviously more luck than judgement.
