The admins can make a post sticky.

It keeps the post at the top of the relevent forum and they usually do it if there is some important info or some question that crops up time and time again to keep it visible.

Admins. How often do you review sticky threads to see if they are still relevent? Do you un-sticky posts after a period of time?

Yes.

We regularly review 'stickies' to make sure they are still relevant - failing that, we re-write them and keep them sticky; as with the 'How to Use the Planned Trips Section' thread.

Others are kept in place so that if any one makes a James of something, then we can refer them to the relevant 'Sticky' thread.
