Interesting points. The reason I'm not too concerned about Trolls in particular is that we have two tools to use against them. a) Red blobs - get your retaliation in off-thread and b) a very active set of moderators. Trolls get their 5 mins of fame and that's it. No response means troll posts drop off the "New Posts" radar.

I think that'll be enough.

What's the big deal? Trolls - don't feed them and they go away, as long as their language is acceptable for a public forum (and there's a few non-trolls who could do with cleaning up their act) it's just a bit of fun, think of it like internet satire.

Edit: Hang on, Mdemon was online, then went off, then I came on... Am I him and he Spartacus? I'm all confused now...

Good posting Rebecca. I reckon the time of the year doesn't help, most of us probaly suffering from DDS (Dive Deficiency Syndrome) and take out on the net. I've lost pacience with Divernet although still have a look once in a while. As this site have a couple of efficient moderators I'm not so worried on trolls, if worried it's very easy to PM a moderator.

Don't feed them and they go away - exactly.

Feed them and we go like Divernet of late - we did a great job of feedling the last one, oodles of response, even some support for it's "point", and a whole new thread in it's honour...

I agree good mods will help

The Admins stand four-squre with Moray on this issue.

Tolerance, people, tolerance. We're a broad church here at YD, long may it be the case.

If a post annoys or upsets you, PM Jay, 2Tanx, And or myself, and if it meets the 'Mince Criteria', we shall act.

Cheers all in advance!

Angry

Very well put Rebecca and something I have been pondering for a while now (head hurts, need beer!) and it is true, ignore the trolls and they'll go away. If not then I usually come across them at some point and generally they behave when I meet them. Why?

BECAUSE I AM THE ALPHA MALE HERE....ALRIGHT!!!!!!!! GRRRRR.

Heehee Andy2tanx and Bren :-)

And thank you to the rest of you for your feedback, both positive and not so positive (lots of it PMs and the like).

I am not concerned with only trolls or certain posts, but simply with what seems to me a trend toward unkindness. We take the piss out of each other here regularly, but all in good fun, and it should stay that way.

Thanks all, for reading my rant with patience :-)
