    Deco on 36%

    So the question is simple

For those of us not yet blessed with a decent nitrox qualification, is there any value in doing deco stops on 36% for normal recreation dives to say 35M max on air?

Would is accelerate the deco curve at all or would it just be 'nice for a bit of added safety'

Do the dive on 32% and you will get ten minutes extra no deco.

They will always be an advantage to using a low nitrogen mix on deco but the idea of basic nitrox training is to use the higher O2 content on the actual dive instead of air

Taking a stage cylinder with 36% to a depth of 35m without decent training is asking for trouble. Whilst the ppO2 at 35m would only be 1.62 bar and it is unlikely to provoke an O2 hit within a few seconds, you are asking for serious trouble if you use it that deep.

Taking a stage negates the original premise that it is a recreational dive

My answer is: do a decent training course as you are unlikely to find out all the dangers until it's too late if you don't.

Agree with both comments above. If you want a longer bottom time, use best mix for the bottom stage. If you want to do deco, get some deco training.

Get a nitrox qualification. I dont under the rest of the question. But Yeh deco stops are good on all dives what ever the depth.

Exactly. I can't understand why you would use air on the bottom, in this case? If you have a nitrox cert, the get the best mix for the bottom, and if you want an extra safety margin use air tables, or take advantage to stay longer for the same deco. Just make sure you have enough gas to do this.

I'm confused as to why you would dive on air to 35meters when it would appear you have the basic nitrox cert, the only reason why i could see you doing this and trying to use a stage bottle is because your main cylinders (back gas) aren't O2 cleaned thus you cannot get them filled with a nitrox mix, but have or have access to a O2 clean stage bottle..

In short do the dive on nitrox, 31% is the max at 1.4 Po2 for 35meters

Taking a 'hot' mix to depth with no training is just a non starter. Get some training, end of story.
