| Greetings all I am about to take possession of my VR3, and having read up on some of the manual, it appears that it runs off ProPlanner. After following a number of threads on this, it also appears that V-Planner is a firm favourite with many of you guys. Honest and simple (multi-part) question here: - How similar is V-Planner to ProPlanner? If you are diving off a VR3, would you still potentially use V-Planner in the planning stage of a dive or not? Why? What are people's views on this? I know that there is a similar thread running at the moment on "What Software", and before anyone says that "computers are a back up", I am aware of this, and I do use my tables to plan my dives. (At the moment, I have just entered the world of accelerated deco dives using air/nitrox, but want to further my understanding of this subject as I develop my experience.) Thanks in advance of your advice Steve

| The VR3 actually uses the same model as ProPlanner, not DecoPlanner. If you buy the download kit for the VR3 (which is very handy if you dive different mixes regularly) you get a copy of ProPlanner as well. Taking tables in with you is very important as they act as a simple, break-proof lifeline should anything happen to your computer (i.e. it fails, falls off, etc.). I memorize my planned bottom time and refer to them whilst doing my ascent as a backup to the computer. If the computer gives me off results then the tables take over. Personally I use ProPlanner for cutting my tables and compare them with ddPlan for a quick sanity check.

Eh?? Proplanner is pants and has exactly the same problems as all other land based dive planning systems in that it doesn’t actually know what the dive is it just takes the info you provide verbatim. A very square or fixed multi level dive will look the same but a 'normal' dive will look totally different so don’t worry about what you use as long as its Buhlmann based. Decoplanner is great to use and very simple to set up so I would recommend it. Vplanner is a far more powerful package with many more ways to tweak the dive but its VPM based so will give conflicting data to the Buhlmann based VR3 ATB Mark Chase

| I do use Proplanner and find it great, also for the first dive with Vr3, profile was identical. It was a square dive. Regards Pierre
